As the Winter Olympics approach, all the hottest romances in TV seem to be taking place on the ice. In the wake of the sensation that was season 1 of hockey romance Heated Rivalry, every network and streamer seems intent on delivering your next winter-sports love affair of choice. The latest contender is Netflix’s Finding Her Edge, based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s 2022 young-adult romance novel of the same name. The story—a self-described “soapy YA drama” focusing on a love triangle between ice dancers Adriana (Madelyn Keys), Freddie (Olly Atkins), and Brayden (Cale Ambrozic)—shares little resemblance to Heated Rivalry other than its ice-rink setting and its romantic yearning. But that might be enough for fans eager for a spark of heat in the dead of winter.
Finding Her Edge, both the book and Netflix adaptation, is loosely based off of Jane Austen’s novel Persuasion, which should give viewers some indication as to which would-be romantic partner Adriana might ultimately choose. In the series, Adriana Russo trains as a competitive ice dancer after her sister, Elise (Alexandra Beaton), suffers an injury that prevents her from competing. If Adriana can win gold, she can save the Russo family’s legendary ice rink—currently on the brink of financial ruin—and carry on the legacy of her Olympic-champion parents. But lacing up her ice skates again after a two-year hiatus means she can’t train alongside her former collaborator (and ex-boyfriend) Freddie O’Connell, who’s found himself a new partner. And so Adriana turns to a last resort: Brayden Elliot, the bad boy of ice dancing, and the only other available partner who might lead her to an Olympic podium.
Ultimately, Adriana and Brayden capitalize on their chemistry, striking up a fake relationship—which the media coins “Braydriana”—to stir up sponsorship interest and keep the Russo Rink operating. But Brayden’s real feelings for Adriana soon make themselves apparent, which creates conflict in Finding Her Edge’s final episode, when the two compete at the World Championships. There, they secure first place over Freddie and his partner, Riley (Millie Davis), but Adriana makes it clear (to her sisters, to Freddie, and to Brayden himself) that “Braydriana” was a ruse and that her heart belongs to Freddie. Adriana and Freddie share a kiss, and an angry, hurt Brayden leaves Paris (and his partnership with Adriana) behind.
In the final moments of episode 8, Freddie and Adriana become a romantic couple again, and they agree to compete together again as ice-dancing partners. But as they both prepare to train at the Russo Rink (now under new ownership, and called Voltage Skating Academy) they encounter Brayden, who has begun a new partnership with—surprise, surprise—none other than Riley. Now with their roles reversed, Freddie and Brayden are once again at odds, and Brayden looks ready to make the ensuing competition a ferocious one.
With that cliffhanger in mind, here’s what author Iacopelli and the cast members had to say about the polarizing ending…and about Finding Her Edge’s future.
Netflix
Why does Adriana choose Freddie over Brayden at the end of season 1?
Iacopelli understands that not all fans will be satisfied with Adriana’s decision, especially given that the fake-dating trope in romance novels almost always leads to real love.
But, remember, she argues, Finding Her Edge is loosely based on Persuasion. “Ultimately, [rekindling a romance with her former love] is the choice Anne Elliot makes in Persuasion,” Iacopelli says. “I think we made it a little harder on Adriana because Brayden is a way better guy than the original Mr. Elliot, both in the show and in the book, but even still, the pull of first love is strong, even years later.”
She continues, “I love our love triangle because I think it’s one of the few out there where the decision isn’t super obvious. There are two young men in Adriana’s life who care about her and who she cares for. What I’ll say is that Adriana is the type of character who very rarely does what she wants simply because she wants it. And what she wants at the end of season 1—and at the end of the first book—is Freddie. She’s been in love with him her entire life, and she wants to give those feelings a chance.”
Adds Keys, who plays Adriana, “I think [Adriana] loves so many things about Brayden. But I also think Brayden is not in the emotional place that Adriana is. She’s had to teach him how to feel, how to [communicate]. And she is the victim of some of his outbursts at times. And so I think, if she were to be with Brayden long-term, there would be that a degree of inequity between them. She would continue to have to teach him, and I want her to be with somebody who can match her and teach her things as well. And so I would think Brayden would need to learn a couple more lessons before they would be a perfect match.”
Will there be a season 2 of Finding Her Edge?
Netflix has yet to announce an official renewal for the series, but Iacopelli and the cast seem optimistic about a second chapter.
“The writers did such an incredible job of giving season 1 its own story while setting up so many new possibilities for drama in a potential season 2,” Iacopelli says. “I can’t wait to see how Adriana and Freddie handle finally being together while they skate together.”
Netflix
What do Iacopelli and the cast want to see in a potential season 2?
Iacopelli and the whole cast are keen for some mess. “I’m so curious how we’ll see Brayden and Riley develop after being thrown together, both feeling betrayed by their former partners,” Iacopelli teases.
Adds Ambrozic, who plays Brayden, “Obviously, [Brayden] choosing to skate with a new partner who is so close to home is a little bit petty, and definitely a little bit of a revenge plan—I think you could tell by the look [he gives Adriana]. But I thought we ended on a really great note for season 2, God willing.”
Atkins, who plays Freddie, wants to see Adriana’s current partner (and current love) “lose control a little bit” in season 2. He continues, “I’d like to see his competitive spirit unlocked. I think that, with all of this history that he has in really compacting down his emotions and controlling how he expresses how he feels, I want to see him let loose. I think it would be really, really fun to play with.”
Keys is all in for more love-triangle chaos, but she also wants to see Adriana develop further as an individual. “I want to see her be more engaged in the other people in her lives and realize that not everything is about her sometimes,” she says. “I’d love her to be more of a support for not only her father, but also for the other people in her life.”
Turning to Beaton—who plays Adriana’s sister, Elise—Keys adds, laughing, “And, selfishly, as an actress, I want us to fight again. Let’s fight and then make up. That would be lovely.”

The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has sparked a significant debate regarding its role in the workplace. With rapid technological advancements, many organizations are adopting AI to streamline operations, enhance productivity, and improve decision-making processes. However, the integration of AI also presents challenges and concerns that need to be carefully considered. So, is AI a friend or a foe in the workplace?

A quick bit of breaking news that hit just as we were about to send this newsletter out. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into Waymo after its robotaxis have been spotted illegally passing stopped school buses numerous times in at least two states. Read the full story here.
Now onto our regular programming …
Tesla made a couple of moves this week — and just before its quarterly earnings drops — designed to show its progress, and even dominance, in automated driving technology. But, hold up, there is more to it than mere optics.
The week started with Tesla offering passengers robotaxi rides in Austin without a human safety driver in the front seat. If you recall, Tesla launched a limited service in Austin last year with a fleet of modified Tesla Model Y vehicles running a more advanced version of the company’s driving software known as Full Self-Driving Supervised (this one being “unsupervised”). Human safety operators have been riding in the front passenger seat as a precaution since the rollout.
Not all of Tesla’s fleet in Austin will be fully driverless, and there is apparently a chase vehicle behind those that are. Still, it is notable and suggests Tesla is moving toward a broader ramp-up.
Meanwhile, Tesla has killed Autopilot, the advanced driver-assistance system that was initially introduced to its vehicles in 2014. Autopilot has gone through several software and hardware iterations over the years with new capabilities.
Techcrunch event
San Francisco
Autopilot was instantly popular and controversial, in part because the name implied the system was more capable than it actually was. (Drivers are responsible and are supposed to have their hands on the wheel when Autopilot is engaged.)
Tesla eventually made a basic Autopilot system standard in all of its vehicles, while launching and charging for a more robust system known now as Full Self-Driving (Supervised). The basic version, which is now dead, included traffic-aware cruise control, in which the vehicle maintains a set distance with cars ahead, and Autosteer, a feature that centers the vehicle in the lane and steers it.
Its decision to kill what was standard ADAS comes one week after Tesla said it would stop charging a one-time $8,000 fee for the FSD software and move all customers to a monthly subscription.
These decisions when taken together offer a simple enough explanation: Tesla wants to recognize more revenue from FSD as it positions itself as an AI and robotics company.
But there is another possible reason. The company is facing a 30-day suspension of its manufacturing and dealer licenses in California after a judge ruled in December that Tesla engaged in deceptive marketing by overstating the capabilities of Autopilot and FSD.
The ruling has been stayed for 60 days to allow Tesla to comply. Dropping the Autopilot name while cashing in on FSD is a rather bold move. But perhaps Tesla believes this is enough to satiate the DMV.

Zipline, the autonomous drone-delivery and logistics startup, has been around for more than a decade, starting in Rwanda delivering blood. Its progress has been slow and steady, notching wins in other African countries and expanding to the United States. That trajectory sped up after it launched a new drone platform in 2025 called P2 that focuses on home delivery of food and other goods.
Now, fueled with $600 million in new funding, its expansion ambitions have grown. The company, which is now valued at $7.6 billion, is bringing its service to Houston and Phoenix and plans to expand to at least four more U.S. states in 2026.
Fidelity Management & Research Company, Baillie Gifford, Valor Equity Partners, and Tiger Global participated in the funding round.

Hoda Kotb’s post-“Today” chapter was supposed to be a joyful reinvention.
Instead, her first major independent project has reportedly stirred frustration, mockery, and quiet resentment inside NBC.
As insiders describe growing fatigue with her requests and question her latest venture, the former morning show star is facing an unexpectedly chilly reception from the very workplace she left behind.
Hoda Kotb’s Post Today Exit Has Left Colleagues Irritated
MEGA
A year after stepping away from her co-anchor role on “Today,” Hoda Kotb is finding that her separation from NBC has not meant a clean break.
According to insiders, the 61-year-old broadcaster has continued leaning on her former colleagues for assistance as she builds her YouTube project, “Joy Rides.”
That outreach, sources say, has worn thin.
One insider summed up the mood bluntly, telling the Daily Mail, “Even Hoda doesn’t really know what this is. The staff call her a perpetual pest. She quit, now she keeps begging favors and everyone’s over it.”
What was once seen as a friendly ask from a familiar face is now described as an ongoing burden.
Staffers who remain deeply immersed in the daily grind of network news reportedly feel stretched beyond capacity, leaving little patience for side projects that no longer fall under NBC’s umbrella.
Inside The Mockery Surrounding Hoda Kotb’s ‘Joy Rides’ Launch
MEGA
“Joy Rides” was introduced as a celebrity interview series built around candid conversations inside cars, a stripped-down take on the familiar mobile-interview format.
The premiere episode, released January 21, featured “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie and was filmed before Guthrie’s December 19 departure for vocal cord surgery.
Despite the high-profile guest, NBC insiders were unimpressed. The early-morning shoot, much of it filmed in near darkness, was widely mocked behind the scenes as an unsteady debut.
One NBC producer did not mince words, saying, “The staff are sick of it. It’s not their job to find content for Hoda’s app. They’re burned out working for NBC News and just want her to go away. She’s pushing her luck. The idea looked cute on paper, but in reality it’s awkward, forced and exhausting. Hoda’s charm only goes so far when people are tapped out.”
The tone suggests more than creative criticism. It reflects exhaustion from a workforce already under pressure, now feeling pulled into a project they believe should stand on its own.
Savannah Guthrie’s Appearance Raised Eyebrows At NBC
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGA
Savannah Guthrie’s involvement in the launch episode became a particular flashpoint.
While the former co-anchors have long shared an on-air bond, insiders say Guthrie’s participation did little to generate enthusiasm within NBC.
Instead, it fueled skepticism about the project’s reach and relevance.
One source noted the limited nature of the appearance, saying, “Savannah gave her fifteen minutes at 4am. That tells you everything. If anyone else with so few subscribers asked Savannah to do media, she wouldn’t. It’s basically Hoda forcing her way back into relevance, and no one’s impressed.”
At the time of reporting, the five-question interview had drawn 9,497 views on Joy 101, a channel with just under 2,000 subscribers.
For critics inside NBC, those figures reinforced the belief that the show’s launch failed to justify the effort surrounding it.
Ratings Anxiety And Savannah Guthrie’s Absence
The scrutiny surrounding “Joy Rides” coincided with broader turbulence around “Today.”
During Guthrie’s medical absence, insiders say she entered what one source described as “full panic mode.”
An insider said, “Savannah is trying to laugh it off publicly, but privately she’s completely shaken. Seeing the ratings tick up without her hit a nerve she didn’t know she had.”
That anxiety reportedly intensified as ratings showed a 12 percent year-over-year increase during the week spanning late December and early January.
The source added, “She’s refreshing the ratings reports like it’s her full-time job right now. It’s consuming her. She’s hyper-aware now of every on-air decision, every co-host moment. It’s like she’s watching the show from the outside for the first time. Her biggest fear is that this changes how NBC sees her leverage. That thought alone is keeping her up at night.”
NBC Pushback And Hoda Kotb’s Post-Exit Fallout
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGA
Behind the scenes, some staff noted a noticeable tonal change during her absence.
“Without Savannah, the vibe shifted immediately. It stopped feeling like a classroom and started feeling like a group of equals,” one source said. “She naturally takes charge, but when she’s gone, everyone else finally breathes. It feels more collaborative, more relaxed. There’s less tension on set now. No one’s worried about stepping out of line or getting corrected mid-conversation. The show feels warmer. Instead of one authority figure steering everything, it’s more like friends sharing the space.”
NBC pushed back against that narrative, stating, “Season-to-date, TODAY is posting its best ratings in 14 years. Savannah Guthrie has been at the helm of the show for almost that entire time and she is one of the keys to its ratings success.”
As Hoda Kotb continues to chart her own path, the reaction from inside NBC suggests her departure has left unresolved tensions.
What was meant to be a fresh start has instead exposed lingering strains, shifting loyalties, and an industry that moves on faster than its former stars might expect.

Ice caused power issues across the northeast Georgia corridor Sunday morning.
ATLANTA — Thousands of people are without power Sunday after an ice storm swept across metro Atlanta and northeast Georgia, with more possible impacts due from a freeze expected Sunday night into Monday morning.
The main problem for power systems during an ice storm is that the accumulating ice becomes heavy, weighing down power lines to the point they sometimes snap or poles come down, and weighing down trees to the point they fall onto lines.
