Wisconsin Churches Shut Down Due to Storm

MADISON, Wis. — Several churches in Wisconsin are not holding services on Sunday due to a winter storm that rolled through the area on Saturday.

A powerful winter storm sweeping across Wisconsin has forced numerous churches to cancel their Sunday services, citing hazardous travel conditions and community safety concerns.

The storm, which began late Saturday, brought heavy snowfall, strong winds, and freezing temperatures to much of the state. Road conditions deteriorated quickly overnight, prompting local authorities to issue travel advisories and urge residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Church leaders across various denominations announced cancellations early Sunday morning, many posting updates on their websites and social media pages. Some congregations opted to livestream abbreviated services or share prerecorded messages to ensure members could still participate remotely.

Local officials warned that snowfall totals could continue to rise throughout the day, and crews are working to clear major roads. Emergency management teams emphasized that visibility could be reduced to near zero in some areas due to blowing snow.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts, check for additional closures, and exercise caution if they must travel. The storm is expected to taper off by Sunday evening, with cleanup operations extending into the start of the week.
