Shopify chief operating officer is leaving the company

Shopify Inc. SHOP-T chief operating officer and vice president of product, Kaz Nejatian, is leaving the company, according to regulatory documents filed Wednesday.

The documents filed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said Mr. Nejatian will be departing the company Friday.

The company did not disclose the reason for his departure.

Mr. Nejatian arrived at the Ottawa-based e-commerce company in September, 2025, as a vice-president and general manager of Shopify Money, a team that developed various payment systems for the company’s customers. Mr. Nejatian was promoted to chief operating officer in the fall of 2025.

“Kaz spent six years with us, building products that matter and making merchant services a core part of Shopify. We’re now entering an exciting arc in our history, with AI speeding up our progress and a team that’s stronger than ever,” said Shopify spokesperson Ben McConaghy in an email.

He said Shopify chief executive officer Tobi Lütke will “stay focused on product and the big picture,” supported by the company’s executive team.

According to regulatory records filed on Wednesday, Kaz Nejatian, the vice president of product and chief operational officer of Shopify Inc. SHOP-T, is departing the firm.

Mr. Nejatian will leave the company on Friday, according to paperwork submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The reason for his leaving was not disclosed by the company.

In September 2025, Mr. Nejatian joined the Ottawa-based e-commerce company as the general manager and vice-president of Shopify Money, a group that created different payment methods for the clients of the business. In the fall of 2025, Mr. Nejatian received a promotion to chief operating officer.

In regulatory filings, the company thanked Mr. Nejatian for his contributions to the company.

“This is a strong group with deep experience and they are ready to ensure a seamless transition,” the company wrote.
