LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A lawyer for Lamar Odom entered a not guilty plea on the former NBA player’s behalf in a Las Vegas DUI case Tuesday.
Odom did not attend the arraignment hearing in Las Vegas Justice Court as his attorney, Kevin Coburn, waived the reading of a criminal complaint.
Coburn requested a bench trial, and the next hearing was scheduled for July 7.
Nevada State Police arrested Odom in January after he was caught speeding on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. A trooper wrote in the arrest report that he reached 110 miles per hour at one point, but Odom’s SUV was outpacing him.
Once Odom stopped on the side of the freeway, the trooper alleged they “could smell the overwhelming odor of Marijuana emanating from the vehicle.”
Odom denied smoking any cannabis or drinking alcohol, according to the arrest report, but he later admitted that he might have used marijuana hours earlier.
Prosecutors have filed a criminal complaint charging him with DUI, speeding 41 mph or greater over the limit and failure to maintain his travel lane, all misdemeanor counts.
A one-time UNLV recruit, Odom played in the NBA from 1999 to 2013 for the Clippers, Heat, Lakers and Mavericks. He won two championships during his time with the Lakers. He also gained additional fame for his marriage to reality TV star Khloé Kardashian.
In 2015, Odom was found unconscious at a brothel in Nye County. He was hospitalized in Las Vegas in a comatose state before being transferred to Los Angeles. He and Kardashian later divorced in 2016.
