Chubba Purdy
Position: Quarterback
Class: Sixth-year senior
Height/weight: 6-1/205
Hometown: Queen Creek, Ariz.
Experience: Five seasons (two at Florida State; two at Nebraska; one at Nevada)
Career FBS stats: 23 games (six starts): 103-of-188 (54.8 percent) passing for 1,085 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions; 86 rushes for 375 yards (4.4 ypc) and three touchdowns; two catches for 10 yards
Why he’s on the list: Purdy will look to end his star-crossed college career on a high note. The former four-star recruit has had as many surgeries as starts in college (six each) with two transfers and a couple of coaching changes also altering his course. But he’s won the Wolf Pack’s starting job this year and is healthy for his first college start in a season opener. Purdy is an elite athlete who will make plays with his legs, either via scripted plays or with improvisation. That athleticism should add a dynamic element to Nevada’s run game, but the bigger question is his ability to operate the passing attack. In his career, Purdy has completed just 55 percent of his passes for 5.8 yards per attempt with more interceptions (eight) than passing touchdowns (seven). But that’s been in small one-game samples, mostly against elite competition. Purdy has a fresh slate at Nevada and is embracing being the guy for the first time in his career. And he must be good for Nevada to reach a bowl for the first time since 2021. His skills indicate he’s capable of doing so if he can stay healthy, which has been the big knock on him during his career. Here is our full feature on Purdy and his journey to this moment.
