Emma Raducanu Advances to Cluj Semi-Finals After Victory Over Maja Chwalinska

Top seed Raducanu has now won her first three matches since splitting with coach Francis Roig after a lacklustre second-round exit at January’s Australian Open.

She is now into a first semi-final since the Washington Open in July and victory will see her reach a first final since the US Open.

Raducanu will next face Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova, who claimed her first top-50 win against Chinese fourth seed Wang Xinyu to reach a first WTA Tour semi-final.

With temporary tattoos of bats across her face – a nod to Transylvania’s folklore and nature – Oliynykova saved 21 out of 23 break points against Wang to win 6-4 6-4.

Katie Boulter also triumphed on Thursday, beating Czech Linda Fruhvirtova 6-3 6-2 to reach the Ostrava Open semi-finals.

Raducanu opened the contest with a flawless first set, not dropping a single game. Her aggressive baseline play and accurate serving allowed her to dominate the rallies, limiting Chwalinska to just a handful of points during the opening stretch.

The second set proved more competitive, with Chwalinska briefly threatening after an early break. However, Raducanu quickly responded, breaking back and regaining control. She maintained her composure in the closing games to seal the match and advance to the final four.

The win marked another positive step in Raducanu’s campaign as she looked to build momentum following an inconsistent start to the season. It also represented her fourth career semi-final appearance on the WTA Tour and kept her on track for a potential first title since her remarkable 2021 US Open triumph.

With the victory, Raducanu set up a semi-final clash against Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova, continuing her push toward a deep run in the tournament

It is a first semi-final appearance for the 29-year-old Briton since she won the Paris Challenger title in May last year.

After struggling for consistency throughout 2025, Boulter split with long-term coach Biljana Veselinovic and hired Michael Joyce to help her freshen up her game.

She will face American world number 96 Katie Volynets for a place in the final in the Czech Republic.
