Wow.

What a response from Team USA, which gave up three in the sixth end and scored two itself in the seventh.

After Canada’s Rachel Homan threw a great freeze, U.S. skip Tabitha Peterson split a pair of stones with a draw that ultimately tapped off a Canadian rock and rested in the button, giving the Americans a multiple to tie the game 5-5.

The sixth end has been kind to Team USA throughout these Games. That wasn’t the case on Saturday, though.

A costly shot through the house by Tara Peterson and a near-miss by her sister, Tabitha, later on did the U.S. in, allowing the Canadians to score three and take a 5-3 lead.

The U.S. is currently in the driver’s seat in a back-and-forth bronze-medal game against Canada.

A fifth end that saw Cory Thiesse knock Canadian stones out of the house culminates in a must-have draw to the button from Tabitha Peterson.

Team USA has recorded a single in the first, third and fifth end.

The U.S. denied Canada a multiple in the fourth end, thanks to a well-placed freeze thrown by American skip Tabitha Peterson.

Peterson bounced back after her previous throw, a draw, was heavy and slid out of the house.

Her final throw finished with a nose tap on Canada’s stone at the button. That shrunk the scoring zone, ultimately limiting the Canadians to just one point in the end.

It’s 2-2, and the U.S. now has the hammer.

Canada used the hammer to its advantage in the second end, tying the game 1-1.

But in the third end, Team USA answered back.

American skip Tabitha Peterson threw her final stone of the end around Canada’s center-line guards, tucking it right in front of a pair of Canadian stones in the button.

That gave the U.S. a much-needed point and a 2-1 lead.

The Americans are out in front after the first end, thanks to a well-placed throw from skip Tabitha Peterson.

It’s 1-0 Team USA.

Peterson is joined by her sister Tara as well as Cory Thiesse and Taylor Anderson-Heide.

Thiesse won a silver in mixed doubles earlier these Games.

After making the Olympic playoffs for the first time since 2002, the U.S. women’s curling team fell short in semifinal action against Switzerland on Friday. Switzerland avenged its loss to the Americans in the round-robin finale, in large part thanks to Alina Pätz, who was practically perfect and fueled a 7-4 victory that was closer than the score suggests. Switzerland will face Sweden in the gold-medal game on Sunday. But, first, on Saturday, the U.S. will square off against Canada with the bronze medal on the line.

The Americans have never medaled in women’s curling, which was was added to the Olympics in 1998. In Salt Lake City 24 years ago, they lost to Canada in a bronze-medal game. The U.S. is hoping to flip the script this time around. In round-robin play, the American women notched their first-ever Olympic win over a Canadian team that previously had their number.

Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo has become a household name during this year’s Olympics. The 29-year-old Norwegian has won six gold medals — the most by any athlete at a single Winter Games all-time — and he’s done so in a rigorous event that calls for incredible endurance.

Klaebo’s climbs on the final lap of his races have been a thing of beauty.

Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo has gone 6-for-6 in this year’s Games, meaning he’s won a gold medal in all six of his cross-country skiing events.

His six golds are the most ever recorded by an athlete at a single Winter Games.

Norway swept the men’s 50km mass start, and Klaebo once again crossed the finish line first.

He now has 11 career gold medals, the second most all-time in Olympic history. In that regard, Klaebo trails only U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all-time.

The Americans won a second consecutive gold medal in mixed aerials on Saturday.

In the process, Team USA gained its 11th gold, its most in a single Winter Games.

The Americans entered the day without a medal in aerials in these Games.

Although they were the defending gold medalists in Olympic mixed aerials, there was no guarantee they’d run it back.

But after Chris Lillis’ final run, the U.S. made that happen. Lillis, who was part of that winning squad in Beijing, has another gold, and this time he’s sharing the joy with Connor Curran and and Kaila Kuhn

The U.S. is golden again.

The Milan Cortina Olympics have been flying by faster than Jordan Stolz. The American speedskating icon will be on display once more Saturday.

He’s one of a handful of Americans who have a shot at earning some hardware to kick off the weekend.

The United States turned in its most impressive win thus far Friday, taking down Slovakia 6-2 in the semifinal to advance to the gold-medal game.

The U.S. received two goals from Jack Hughes, with four other players chipping in scores of their own. While Slovakia tried to rally late, the deficit proved to be too large for them to truly make it a game in the third period.

As a result, Team USA will play in the gold-medal game for the first time since 2010. They’ll take on Canada in a rematch of that 2010 final, which Canada won.

Corinne Stoddard becomes the first American to medal in short track speed skating since 2010.

Stoddard won bronze after getting passed by Korea’s Kim Gil-li and Choi Min-jeong in the final laps. Gil-li won gold and Min-jeong won silver.

Polish skater Kamila Sellier suffered a serious injury in the sixth quarterfinal of Friday night’s 1500m short-track speed skate and was taken from Assago Ice Skating Arena to a nearby hospital. Polish officials indicated that she was in good spirits, even raising a thumbs-up as she left the arena.

Late in the quarterfinal, Sellier appeared to lose her footing and slipped, colliding with the United States’ Kristen Santos-Griswold. In the ensuing accident, Santos-Griswold’s skate caught Sellier on the face. Sellier slid into the protective retaining wall, and medical crews raised a sheet around her to protect the scene from the audience. She was stretchered from the ice.

A pass in the final laps helped the Netherlands win the men’s 5000m speed skating relay. Korea won silver and Italy won bronze.

Dutch speed skater Jens van ‘t Wout has now won three golds and a bronze medal in the Winter Olympics. Only former South Korean-born Russian short-track speed skater Viktor Ahn had done it before van ‘t Wout. Ahn did it twice, once for Russia and once for South Korea.

At long last, Alex Ferreira is a gold medalist.

The 31-year old halfpipe specialist finally completed his Olympic set Friday night, adding a long-coveted gold to the silver and bronze he won in 2022 and 2018.

He did it by stomping his third and final run, waving his right pole around like a lasso at the bottom of the pipe and moving into first place with a score of 93.75.

From there, Ferreira had to survive three more challengers. Estonia’s 19-year old Henry Sildaru gave it a good run but came up .75 points short according to the judges.

Team Canada women’s hockey team played a tight gold-medal game against the U.S. on Thursday, but ultimately came up short. Megan Keller scored the game-winning goal for Team USA, picking up the walk-off win.

After the contest, Team Canada didn’t seem too happy while receiving an Olympic stuffed animal while still on the ice.

The Canadians also received the silver medal, so the stuffed animal wasn’t their only reward for finishing in second. Still, it maybe wasn’t the best time to hand out stuffed animals.
