AI Apps Misfire with Nonexistent Emergencies in Boulder Country

Some Frederick area residents received a notification that firefighters were battling a “commercial blaze” downtown.

A screenshot of the alert was shared to Facebook, sparking concern that was quickly dispelled by one commenter who wrote: “I’m sitting in an office in that building and there is nothing going on.”

An emergency notification app that uses artificial intelligence had misinterpreted radio traffic from a training exercise that simulated a structure fire in downtown, according to a post from the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District.

A screenshot of a post alerting users to a fire in downtown Frederick was shared to a Facebook group on Jan. 30. No such fire happened in Frederick that day.

“This incident is a good reminder of the importance of verifying information through multiple reliable sources before sharing or acting on it,” the post reads.

Summer Campos, a spokesperson for the district, said she wasn’t sure how the app had access to the channel firefighters were using. In the future, the district will be using a tactical channel that doesn’t air publicly, she said.

Campos couldn’t confirm what app had alerted residents to the false situation. But CrimeRadar, an app that uses AI to summarize publicly available dispatch audio, had a post that described a fire in downtown Frederick.

Such false alerts are not unique to Frederick. In Boulder and Longmont, AI-driven emergency notifications have spread false information that, in some instances, has sparked very real concern.

Incorrect alerts

On Wednesday, the CrimeRadar sent out an alert reporting an apartment fire in Longmont. Linked dispatch audio didn’t include a location, and Rogelio Mares, a spokesperson for the city, said the city hadn’t received reports of any apartment fires. The post later disappeared from CrimeRadar.

CrimeRadar monitors publicly available dispatch audio and then uses AI to generate summaries, according to its website. Users access alerts on the CrimeRadar website or by downloading the CrimeRadar app, which also sends push alerts.

While Longmont police radio transmissions are encrypted, Longmont Fire radio traffic is aired, Mares said.

In Boulder, the app recently reported that a firefighter was taken to the hospital after a medical emergency in Boulder. The summary said “the firefighter’s condition was not disclosed.”

No Boulder firefighters were injured that day, according to Jamie Barker, a Boulder Fire-Rescue spokesperson. The app appeared to mistake “fire rider” — a term commonly used by dispatchers to describe firefighters riding in ambulances to provide care to patients — for “firefighter.”

“It took information that it heard incorrectly, and then it summarized it incorrectly, and then also made an assumption,” Barker said.

On Wednesday, the app posted about 60 reports of incidents in the Longmont area, including summaries that accurately summarized linked dispatch audio describing medical emergencies and a reported assault. When a fire sparked in the Colo. 119 median east of Longmont on Wednesday, a CrimeRadar post accurately described the situation.

When apps interpret dispatch audio correctly, there is still a chance the information could be inaccurate or incomplete, as dispatch communications can be incomplete and unverified if crews are not yet on scene, Barker said.

“The scanner can be an exceptional tool and resource, but the scanner also only ever tells half of the story,” Barker said.

Such false alerts can be harmful, especially if the company in charge of the system puts it forth as accurate, according to Casey Fiesler, a professor of information science at the University of Colorado Boulder who researches AI ethics.

“If someone gets an alert saying that there’s a fire, that’s going to be very upsetting,” she said.

“People often think that machines are less biased or more accurate than humans, so for this reason, I just think it’s really, really important that systems like this have very strong disclaimers about how information might not be accurate,” Fiesler added.

CrimeRadar said in a statement it is “constantly improving” its system to “ensure higher precision.”

When a user clicks into a CrimeRadar alert to see more details, a disclaimer is posted above the AI-generated summary that reads, “Not official report. AI-generated from public dispatch audio. Verify with official sources.”

“Our goal is to make communities safer by making emergency information accessible, which is why our disclaimer has been a core feature since day one,” the CrimeRadar team wrote in the statement. “It serves as a constant reminder to users that dispatch calls are unconfirmed and to always rely on official sources for final confirmation.”

Misinformation spreads quickly

Nextdoor, which uses the AI-powered Samdesk to generate alerts, has also sent out incorrect information to Boulder County communities.

Last fall, a Nextdoor alert reporting an active shooter at a federal facility in Boulder quickly generated concern. A screenshot was shared to Reddit, Boulder dispatch began getting several calls from concerned community members, and police were scrambling to get accurate information, Dionne Waugh, a Boulder police spokesperson, said.

The Nextdoor alert turned out to be false. The AI had scraped information from an old online post, Waugh said.

The panic generated by these false alerts can be particularly harmful in Boulder, which has seen large-scale tragedies in recent years, including the 2021 King Soopers shooting and, just this summer, a targeted attack on Pearl Street.

“Every time something like that happens, it takes people back to the real moments,” Waugh said.

“We understand how distressing a false alert can be for residents, and we regret the concern these incidents caused,” a Nextdoor spokesperson wrote in a statement.

The company worked directly with both Boulder and Longmont police after the departments expressed concerns in late 2025.

Nextdoor alerts are processed through a review system and “augmented by human oversight as needed,” according to the statement.

The app has recently added additional verification layers for alerts that involve incidents like mass shootings and wildfires, and given local public agencies access to an alerts map so “boots on the ground” experts can flag or correct inaccuracies within their jurisdictions.

Nextdoor and CrimeRadar said they remove posts when inaccuracies are identified.

Waugh said removing posts doesn’t address the issue because it doesn’t clarify whether something actually happened.

Fiesler agreed. Correcting misinformation once it spreads can be extremely difficult, she said, as misinformation spreads more quickly than corrections.

“Even if the first person posts a correction, that’s not going to make its way to everyone that saw it,” she said.

Where to verify information

Police and fire departments have urged community members using CrimeRadar, Nextdoor or similar services to verify information they see on these platforms.

“It could be useful, it could be another mode of getting information out quickly, but you have to know that you have to verify it elsewhere,” Fiesler said.

Waugh cautioned community members against relying on these services at all.

“Given the inaccuracy of these companies, I wouldn’t rely on them,” she said.

Instead, community members should get their information directly from the police department or from traditional media outlets, Waugh said.

“The most accurate and best information is always going to come from your local law enforcement or your local fire department,” Barker said. “It’s nice to try and find a shortcut to that information through AI, but if you really want to know 100% sure that what you’re hearing is true and real, then you gotta go to the departments for that.”

The Future of Digital Ownership

In recent years, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have taken the digital world by storm, revolutionizing the concept of ownership and art in the digital realm. But what exactly are NFTs, and why are they so important?

What are NFTs?

NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens, are unique digital assets that represent ownership of a specific item or piece of content on a blockchain. Unlike cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum which are fungible, meaning one can be exchanged for another of the same kind, NFTs are distinct and cannot be traded on a one-to-one basis. This uniqueness is what gives NFTs their value and appeal.

How Do NFTs Work?

NFTs utilize blockchain technology to establish a verified proof of ownership for digital assets. This allows creators to tokenize their work, ranging from digital art to music, videos, and even virtual real estate. When someone purchases an NFT, the transaction is recorded on the blockchain, ensuring authenticity and traceability.

Why Are NFTs Important?

The rise of NFTs marks a significant shift in how we approach digital ownership. Here are some key reasons why they are important:

  • Empowerment of Creators: Artists and creators can sell their work directly to fans, cutting out traditional intermediaries like galleries and auction houses.
  • Proof of Ownership: Blockchain verifies ownership history, protecting against fraud and unauthorized reproductions.
  • New Revenue Streams: Creators can earn royalties on secondary sales, allowing them to benefit from the appreciation of their work over time.
  • Community Engagement: NFTs allow for interactive and engaging experiences between creators and their audiences.

The Future of NFTs

As the technology matures, the applications for NFTs are expanding beyond art and collectibles. Potential uses include:

  • Gaming: Players can truly own their in-game assets, with the ability to trade or sell them.
  • Real Estate: Virtual land and properties can be bought and sold as NFTs.
  • Identity and Credentials: NFTs could serve as secure digital identities or certification proofs.
  • Sustainable Fashion: Brands can authenticate and track the ownership of luxury goods.

Conclusion

NFTs represent a groundbreaking approach to digital ownership, offering unprecedented opportunities for creators and consumers alike. While the market remains volatile and speculative, the underlying technology and concepts have the potential to reshape various industries. As we move forward, understanding and embracing NFTs may be key to navigating the future of digital interactions and ownership.

Bill Clinton Testifies in House Epstein Investigation

Deepak Chopra’s close friendship with Jeffrey Epstein

Jeffrey Epstein had a closer friendship with best-selling author and wellness guru Deepak Chopra than was previously known, according to files released by the Justice Department. CNN reviewed hundreds of messages between the two men.

01:37

The University of California, San Diego said bestselling author and wellness guru Deepak Chopra’s association with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was “regrettable,” and that Chopra’s affiliation with the school will end in June, on the heels of CNN’s reporting about Chopra and Epstein’s close relationship.

“UC San Diego is aware that Deepak Chopra, MD, has been mentioned in files that were recently released by the Department of Justice. Dr. Chopra currently has a Voluntary Clinical Professor (without salary) appointment in the School of Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine with an expected job end date of 6/30/26,” the school told CNN. “While we are not able to comment further on personnel matters, the crimes Jeffrey Epstein committed were horrific, and any association with him is regrettable.”

CNN has asked UCSD whether Chopra is currently teaching at the school in his voluntary clinical professor role. CNN has also reached out to Chopra for comment.

The school’s comment came in response to CNN’s examination of hundreds of messages in the Justice Department’s Epstein files that Chopra and Epstein exchanged between 2016 and 2019 — the year that Epstein was arrested on federal charges of operating a sex-trafficking ring and of sexually abusing underage girls.

Chopra wrote on X earlier this month that he was “deeply saddened by the suffering of the victims in this case,” adding: “I was never involved in, nor did I participate in, any criminal or exploitative conduct. Any contact I had was limited and unrelated to abusive activity.”

The presence of a person’s name in the Epstein files is not indicative of wrongdoing. Approached recently and asked to comment about his relationship with Epstein, Chopra said: “No misconduct.”

Which Crypto Should You Invest In?

In recent years, cryptocurrencies have taken the financial world by storm, with Bitcoin and Ethereum emerging as the frontrunners. But which one should you invest in? This article will dissect the two most popular cryptocurrencies to help you make an informed decision.

Understanding Bitcoin

Bitcoin (BTC) was created in 2009 by an anonymous person (or group) known as Satoshi Nakamoto. It is the first cryptocurrency and operates on a peer-to-peer network, allowing users to send and receive payments without a central authority.

Key Features of Bitcoin:

  • Scarcity: There will only ever be 21 million bitcoins, which can drive demand and price.
  • Store of Value: Often referred to as “digital gold,” Bitcoin is seen as a hedge against inflation.
  • Security: Bitcoin’s blockchain is highly secure, making it difficult to manipulate.

Exploring Ethereum

Launched in 2015 by Vitalik Buterin and a team of developers, Ethereum (ETH) is more than just a cryptocurrency. It serves as a platform for decentralized applications (dApps) using smart contracts, which automatically execute transactions when certain conditions are met.

Key Features of Ethereum:

  • Smart Contracts: These are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code.
  • Decentralized Applications: Developers can create dApps on the Ethereum blockchain, leading to a rich ecosystem of services.
  • Transition to Ethereum 2.0: Ethereum is undergoing a major upgrade to enhance scalability and energy efficiency.

Investment Considerations

Deciding between Bitcoin and Ethereum comes down to your investment goals and risk tolerance:

  • Bitcoin: If you’re looking for a digital asset to hold as a store of value, Bitcoin may be your best bet.
  • Ethereum: If you’re interested in technology and the potential for significant growth through decentralized applications, Ethereum could be more appealing.

The Verdict

Ultimately, both Bitcoin and Ethereum have their unique advantages and risks. It may be beneficial to invest in both to diversify your crypto portfolio. Always do your research and consider consulting with a financial advisor before making any investment decisions.

Invest wisely and stay informed as the crypto landscape continues to evolve!

How Global Impunity Enables Israel’s West Bank Annexation

Since December 2025, Israeli authorities have unleashed a series of unlawful measures deliberately designed to dispossess Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and to make the annexation of the territory an irreversible reality, Amnesty International said today.

These decisions represent an unprecedented escalation – in scale and speed – in Israel’s project to expand illegal settlements. They facilitate the takeover of more Palestinian land, authorize a record number of new settlements, expanding existing ones, and formalize registration of land in the West Bank as Israeli state property. While successive Israeli governments have pursued policies aimed at expanding settlements and entrenching occupation and apartheid, the latest measures underscore how the current Israeli government has turbocharged these efforts, in the shadow of the genocide in Gaza.

“What we are witnessing is a state, led by a Prime Minister wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, openly gloating about its defiance of international law. Despite hundreds of UN resolutions, Advisory Opinions from the International Court of Justice and global condemnation, Israel continues to brazenly expand illegal settlements, entrenching its cruel system of apartheid and destroying Palestinian lives and livelihoods,” said Erika Guevara-Rosas, Amnesty International’s Senior Director for Research, Advocacy, Policy and Campaigns.

“The unconditional support of the USA government, combined with the pervasive lack of international accountability for Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, decades of crimes under international law linked to its unlawful occupation and its system of apartheid, has further emboldened Israel to escalate its illegal actions. This includes formalizing land grabs with full confidence that it will face no consequences

The accelerating expansion of unlawful settlements and the rise in state-backed settler violence and crimes across the occupied West Bank are a direct indictment of the international community’s catastrophic failure to take decisive action.

Erika Guevara-Rosas, Amnesty International’s Senior Director for Research, Advocacy, Policy and Campaigns.

“The accelerating expansion of unlawful settlements and the rise in state-backed settler violence and crimes across the occupied West Bank are a direct indictment of the international community’s catastrophic failure to take decisive action. Third states have failed to respect their own legal obligations, refusing to use the tools at their disposal, such as suspension of the EU Israel Association Agreement, to deter Israel from pursuing its unlawful agenda.”

On 10 December 2025 the Israel Land Authority published a tender for 3,401 housing units in the E1 area, east of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank. The plan seeks to expand the illegal settlement of Ma’ale Adumim and create a continuum with occupied East Jerusalem. This would sever the West Bank in two, permanently rupturing urban Palestinian contiguity between Ramallah, occupied East Jerusalem, and Bethlehem. Together with the construction of a bypass road which is set to begin this month, this plan will also lead to the forcible transfer of the Palestinian communities living in the area.

While since the 1990s successive Israeli governments have attempted to implement the E1 plan, it remained largely dormant for decades due to international pressure. Its current advancement with such speed signifies a government that is brazenly pursuing its settlement expansion agenda amidst insufficient international pushback.

Since its occupation of Palestinian territory in 1967, Israel has introduced and developed an oppressive administrative and legal architecture of dispossession and control against Palestinians. The current government has been relentlessly accelerating this project by fast-tracking settlement expansion and land seizures. On 11 December 2025 Israel’s security cabinet approved plans to establish 19 new settlements, bringing the total number approved by the current coalition government to 68 in just three years and the total number of official settlements to about 210. Around 750,000 Israeli settlers currently live illegally in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The new settlements include the retroactive “legalization” of outposts built in violation of even Israel’s own domestic laws. Credible media reports indicate at least three of these sites sit upon land from which Palestinian communities, such as Ein Samia and Ras Ein al-Ouja, were recently forcibly transferred following state-backed settler violence.

According to Peace Now, an Israeli organization monitoring settlement expansion, in 2025 alone, a record 86 outposts were established, primarily “herding” or “farming” outposts” which have significantly contributed to the spike in state-backed settler violence and forcible transfer of Palestinian communities. Protected by the Israeli military and funded by the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture, the outposts have turned the lives of Palestinian farmers and shepherds, particularly in Area C, into a living hell. Settlers in the outposts aggressively prevent Palestinian shepherds from accessing their grazing land, depriving them of their main livelihood, as well as seizing land by force, vandalizing property, stealing livestock and attacking Palestinians and their homes.

According to the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem, 21 Palestinian communities were fully or partially uprooted in 2025 as a result of state-backed settler violence. A mother of three from Ras Ein al-Ouja, near Jericho, told Amnesty International: “The fear of attacks forced us to put our children to bed with their shoes on, because we might have to flee at any moment.” In January 2026, she and her family were driven out in the freezing cold along with another 122 families; in total more than 600 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from this community.

A declaration by the Israeli civil administration on 5 January 2026 designating 694 dunams of land belonging to the Palestinian towns of Deir Istiya, Bidya and Kafr Thulth in the northern West Bank as “state land”, along with a series of measures to expand control over the West Bank announced by Israel’s security cabinet on 8 February marked a further escalation in Israel’s land grabs.

These measures include repealing Jordanian legislation still in force to allow Israeli settlers to purchase Palestinian land without oversight increasing Israeli civil administrative control over planning and construction in Hebron City and Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem, as well as granting Israeli authorities new enforcement powers in archaeological sites and in issues related to water and environment in Areas A and B.

On 15 February 2026 the Israeli cabinet issued a decision that amounts to annexation under Israeli law.  It allocated over 244 million NIS (Israeli shekels) for the establishment of a government mechanism to facilitate land registration in Area C, transferring the powers of land registration from the civil administration to Israel’s Ministry of Justice.

Currently, nearly 58% of the land in Area C of the occupied West Bank is unregistered, according to Peace Now. Israel has already seized more than half of that area through state land designations. Palestinians face almost insurmountable hurdles to prove land ownership due to Israel’s archaic interpretation of Ottoman land laws which require Palestinians to provide an array of documents, maps and other records that most Palestinians do not have access to.

Make no mistake: full annexation is the goal, and Israel has already laid much of the groundwork for achieving it. Ministers in the current Israeli government no longer feel any need to conceal their intentions.

Erika Guevara-Rosas

“Land registration is yet another Israeli euphemism for land grabs and dispossession. Make no mistake: full annexation is the goal, and Israel has already laid much of the groundwork for achieving it. Ministers in the current Israeli government no longer feel any need to conceal their intentions,” Erika Guevara-Rosas said.

“Israel has totally disregarded its obligations as an Occupying Power towards Palestinian civilians and instead has deliberately and consistently advance its aggressive annexation agenda, in blatant violation of international law, which categorically prohibits annexation and establishment of settlements in occupied territory.

“These measures are in brazen defiance of the International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinions of 2004 and 2024, the latter of which unequivocally found Israel’s presence in the OPT to be unlawful. A subsequent UN General Assembly resolution set September 2025 as the deadline to end Israel’s unlawful occupation. Yet instead of complying, Israel has simply invented new ways to violate international law, further entrenching its unlawful occupation and apartheid – while the international community continues, at best, to pay lip service to Palestinians’ rights and taken no effective action.”

The Impact of Blockchain Technology on Global Finance

Blockchain technology, first introduced as the underlying architecture of Bitcoin, has evolved into a revolutionary tool that promises to transform various sectors, with global finance being one of the most profoundly affected.

Understanding Blockchain Technology

At its core, blockchain is a decentralized and distributed ledger technology that records transactions across many computers. This ensures that the recorded transactions cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks and the consensus of the network.

Key Benefits of Blockchain in Financial Services

  • Enhanced Transparency: All participants in the network can access and validate the entire history of transactions, fostering trust.
  • Improved Security: The cryptographic nature of blockchain provides a secure environment that is less susceptible to fraud and hacking.
  • Reduced Costs: By eliminating intermediaries, blockchain can significantly lower transaction fees and operational costs.
  • Faster Transactions: Automated smart contracts facilitate quick execution of transactions, reducing settlement times from days to minutes.

The Role of Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

Decentralized Finance (DeFi) is one of the most impactful applications of blockchain technology in finance. DeFi platforms allow users to lend, borrow, and trade assets directly on the blockchain, removing the need for traditional financial institutions.

By utilizing smart contracts, DeFi provides a more accessible and inclusive financial system, enabling individuals without bank access to participate in financial activities.

Challenges and Considerations

Despite its potential, the widespread adoption of blockchain in global finance faces several challenges:

  • Regulatory Concerns: Governments around the world are still grappling with how to regulate blockchain and cryptocurrency, which creates a complex environment for adoption.
  • Scalability Issues: Many blockchain networks struggle to handle a large number of transactions swiftly, which is crucial for financial services.
  • User Education: The complexity of blockchain technology presents a significant barrier to entry for many users unfamiliar with its functionality.

Future Outlook

As blockchain technology continues to mature, its impact on global finance is expected to grow even more significant. Financial institutions are increasingly exploring partnerships with blockchain companies and investing in their own blockchain solutions to stay competitive.

The future of finance may very well be decentralized, and those institutions that adapt swiftly to this new landscape will likely lead the charge into a more efficient, transparent, and equitable financial world.

Miami (Ohio) faces Western Michigan on the road Friday night as the RedHawks seek to reach 29-0 in their quest to become the first college basketball team to finish the regular season undefeated since Gonzaga in 2020-21. Despite its gaudy record, Miami is still not a lock for the NCAA Tournament.

The Redhawks are a No. 11 seed in CBS Sports’ Bracketology entering the weekend because they are projected to receive the MAC’s automatic bid. If Miami dropped a game at any point along the way and failed to win the MAC Tournament, its at-large credentials would be up for debate.

With a solid No. 32 standing in the all-important Wins Above Bubble (WAB) metric, Miami is firmly in at-large territory for now. But even a single loss against MAC opposition would inflict significant damage on Miami’s resume metrics. Without any Quad 1 victories to fall back upon and with just one Quad 2 victory, the Redhawks are attempting to thread a needle heading into Selection Sunday.

Bubble teams in action Friday

Miami (Ohio)

at Western Michigan | 6 p.m. (CBS Sports Network)
Entering the weekend:
No. 11 seed (auto-bid)
Game status: Quad 4

The RedHawks are closing in on history, sitting just three games away from a perfect regular season. This trip to Western Michigan is the easiest remaining hurdle, but because it’s a Quad 4 game, it could also be the costliest potential landmine. Even after a 28-0 start, Miami’s NCAA Tournament hopes aren’t completely solidified due to a lackluster schedule that has featured zero Quad 1 games and just one Quad 2 game. There is still room for a nightmare scenario in which a late-season stumble and MAC Tournament loss leave this team on the wrong side of the bubble.

Bubble teams in action Saturday

Seton Hall

at UConn | 12 p.m. (FS1)
Entering the weekend:
First Four Out
Game status: Quad 1

Seton Hall has a lot of ground to make up, but beating UConn on the road would cover a nice chunk of it. This would be one of the 10 best victories posted by anyone in college basketball this season, and it would prove to the selection committee that the Pirates are worthy of a hard look. But if Seton Hall can’t pull a mammoth upset, this will likely be the end of the road for the Pirates’ at-large aspirations.

VCU

vs. Fordham | 12:30 p.m. (USA)
Entering the weekend:
First Four Out
Game status: Quad 4

The Rams are an interesting case study because the average of their resume metrics is hovering in the mid-40s. Generally speaking, that’s fringe at-large territory. But there isn’t a single victory a projected at-large team, and VCU is just 4-7 across the top two quadrants. Playing Fordham is a nothing-burger, but it gives VCU a chance to reset the vibes after more than a week off since a disappointing loss to Saint Louis.

Missouri

at Mississippi State | 1 p.m. (SEC Network)
Entering the weekend:
No. 9 seed
Game status: Quad 2

Missouri is the perfect example of why you should like at WAB instead of NET. If all you saw was Missouri’s No. 58 NET ranking, you might think the Tigers have no business in the at-large conversation. But with a highly respectable No. 35 WAB ranking, Mizzou is actually in decent shape. Coming off a win over Tennessee — its fifth Quad 1 win — Missouri would have to fall hard down the stretch to miss the dance.

Clemson

vs. Louisville | 2 p.m. (ESPN2)
Entering the weekend:
No. 9 seed
Game status: Quad 1

Four straight losses have dropped Clemson from the ACC title race into the bubble conversation. At 10-7 across Quads 1 and 2, the Tigers are still OK for now. But facing Louisville and North Carolina (Tuesday on the road) isn’t the easiest way to get back on track. Clemson likely needs to win two of its final three games to feel good entering the ACC Tournament.

New Mexico

vs. San Diego State | 2 p.m. (CBS)
Entering the weekend:
First Four Out
Game status: Quad 2

New Mexico dropped onto the wrong side of the bubble following a 67-60 Quad 1 loss at Nevada on Tuesday. The Lobos are hovering around 50th in results-based metrics. They will likely need to be in the mid-40s come Selection Sunday to have a realistic chance at inclusion. Any way you slice it, closing the regular season with a win at Utah State would be huge. But evening the season series with San Diego State would keep the Lobos in position along the cut line.

San Diego State

at New Mexico | 2 p.m. (CBS)
Entering the weekend:
No. 11 seed (auto-bid)
Game status: Quad 1

The Mountain West could get anywhere from 1 to 3 bids, depending on how things play out for San Diego State and New Mexico. The Aztecs are currently “in” the CBS Sports Bracketology field as the league’s automatic bid recipient. But, from an at-large perspective, they are just 53rd in WAB and have work to do. This game is critical because it’s the best game the Aztecs have left in the regular season.

UCLA

at Minnesota | 2 p.m. (FS1)
Entering the weekend:
No. 9 seed
Game status: Quad 1

Coming off a blowout loss at Michigan State on Feb. 17, the Bruins had dropped three of five games and two straight by a combined margin of 53 points. Things appeared to be going south in a hurry. But consecutive victories over Illinois and USC have restored UCLA’s tournament trajectory. If the Bruins win two of three down the stretch, they will likely head to the Big Ten Tournament in a strong position.

Georgia

vs. South Carolina | 3:30 p.m. (SEC Network)
Entering the weekend:
No. 10 seed
Game status: Quad 3

Georgia is in good shape, but a loss here would change that. Falling at home to a bad South Carolina team would bring an estimated WAB hit of roughly 0.80, which would translate to a 5-7 spot drop in WAB ranking. That would put Georgia in the low-to-mid 40s, which is close to the likely cut line. But if the Bulldogs take care of business against a team they should beat, they’ll head into the final week of the regular season on solid footing.

USC

vs. Nebraska | 4 p.m. (Big Ten Network)
Entering the weekend:
Next Four Out
Game status: Quad 1

It might feel like USC is a lost cause amid a four-game losing streak. But the Trojans have consecutive Quad 1 opportunities ahead, starting Saturday against Nebraska. If they close on a three-game winning streak — or win 2 of 3 and get some favorable results from other bubble teams — they could still head to the Big Ten Tournament with some at-large pulse. Pulling that off is going to require some rapid improvement, though, because this team is flunking the eye test.

California

vs. Pitt | 4 p.m. (ACC Network)
Entering the weekend:
Last Four In
Game status: Quad 3

Playing lowly Pitt at home is nothing but a landmine for Cal. It’s a no-reward, high-risk proposition, and the Bears better be ready. With wins over four projected tournament teams (UCLA, North Carolina, Miami and SMU), Cal is looking good from a resume perspective. That would change quickly if the Bears slip up against the Panthers.

Texas

at Texas A&M | 4 p.m. (ESPN2)
Entering the weekend:
No. 10 seed
Game status: Quad 1

Texas had Florida on the ropes until the final seven minutes on Wednesday. That’s when the Gators mashed the gas pedal, showing their elite gear and leaving the Longhorns in the dust. Missing out on a potential resume-defining win was a bummer. Still, Texas should have no problem flushing that and getting up for Texas A&M. After losing its first meeting with the Aggies at home back on Jan. 17, Texas will be out for revenge in a high-intensity “double bubble” battle.

Texas A&M

vs. Texas | 4 p.m. (ESPN2)
Entering the weekend:
Last Four In
Game status: Quad 2

Seeing Bucky McMillan’s high-octane system back in the NCAA Tournament would be entertaining. Remember, his Samford team took Kansas down to the wire during a 2024 first-round game. Now in his first season with the Aggies, McMillan has more talent. But he still needs a couple more wins to feel safe after A&M struggled through a four-game losing skid to open February.

TCU

at Kansas State | 6:30 p.m. (ESPN2)
Entering the weekend:
Last Four In
Game status: Quad 2

TCU has won five of its past six games to reach 18-10 (8-7 Big 12) heading into the weekend. The Horned Frogs own a resume that is all over the map. It includes wins over Florida, Wisconsin and Iowa State but losses to Notre Dame, Utah and Colorado. The demonstrated ability to beat high-caliber opposition bodes well for Jamie Dixon’s club in the selection discussion, but the Horned Frogs need to win two of three down the stretch.

Santa Clara

vs. Oregon State | 8 p.m. (CBS Sports Network)
Entering the weekend:
Last Four In
Game status: Quad 4

Santa Clara lost at home to Gonzaga on Feb. 14 and fell at Saint Mary’s on Wednesday. The Gaels needed to win one of those two games to feel safe-ish. Now they have to take care of business against Oregon State and then gear up for a potentially tense WCC Tournament. Beating the Zags or Gaels on a neutral floor would be significant for a Santa Clara team that is 1-5 in Quad 1.

Auburn

vs. Ole Miss | 8:30 p.m. (SEC Network)
Entering the weekend:
No. 10 seed
Game status: Quad 3

Generally speaking, a Quad 3 game this time of year is nothing but a needless risk for a team on the bubble. But in Auburn’s case, hosting Ole Miss could be viewed as a welcome reprieve. After a stretch of six losses in seven games, Auburn just needs wins. Ole Miss is limping in on a 10-game losing streak, which should allow the Tigers to regain their footing.

Virginia Tech

at North Carolina | 8:30 p.m. (ESPN2)
Entering the weekend:
Next Four Out
Game status: Quad 1

Virginia Tech fans who have seen their team drop four of its past six games might wonder why the Hokies are still showing up in a bubble watch. But beating North Carolina on the road would send Virginia Tech surging back toward the cut line, as it would bring a projected 5-8 spot rise in WAB ranking for the Hokies. A season-ending road game at Virginia is also a big opportunity. It’ll take a big upset or two, but the Hokies aren’t dead yet.

Saint Mary’s

vs. Gonzaga | 10:30 p.m. (ESPN)
Entering the weekend:
No. 10 seed
Game status: Quad 1

Saint Mary’s averages out as a top-30 team across both results-based and predictive metrics looked at by the selection committee. But while the Gaels are 8-1 in Quad 2, they remain winless in Quad 1. Wednesday night’s 86-67 home win over Santa Clara was the best win of the season for the Gaels, which is a little concerning. Toppling Gonzaga one last time before the Bulldogs leave for the Pac-12 would make for some great insurance.

Bubble teams in action Sunday

Ohio State

vs. No. 8 Purdue | 1:30 p.m. (CBS)
Entering the weekend:
First Four Out
Game status: Quad 1

Ohio State got second-leading scorer John Mobley Jr. back from a three-game injury absence, but the Buckeyes looked flat anyway during a 74-57 loss at Iowa on Wednesday. That was the Buckeyes’ last chance to beat an at-large team in a true road environment, and they flunked it. Hosting Purdue marks Ohio State’s last guaranteed opportunity to make any sort of statement.

Indiana

vs. No. 13 Michigan State | 3:45 p.m. (ESPN)
Entering the weekend:
Next Four Out
Game status: Quad 1

Indiana’s combined total of four victories across Quad 1 and Quad 2 is the fewest of any high-major team in the top 60 of the NET. That’s the bad news. The good news is that IU has wins over projected tournament teams Purdue, UCLA and Wisconsin. There are several different ways to interpret this resume, but the Hoosiers desperately need to stop the bleeding after dropping three straight.

How Crypto Wallets Work and Why They Matter for Asset Security

What is a Crypto Wallet?

A crypto wallet is a digital tool that allows you to store, send, and receive cryptocurrencies. Unlike traditional wallets, crypto wallets don’t store actual currency but rather the public and private keys that allow you to manage your assets on the blockchain.

Types of Crypto Wallets

1. Hot Wallets

Hot wallets are connected to the internet and are generally user-friendly. They are suitable for frequent transactions but come with higher security risks due to their online nature. Examples include:

  • Mobile wallets (apps on smartphones)
  • Web wallets (accessed via browsers)
  • Desktop wallets (applications installed on computers)

2. Cold Wallets

Cold wallets are offline storage solutions, making them more secure against hacking attempts. They are ideal for long-term holding and include:

  • Hardware wallets (physical devices that store keys)
  • Paper wallets (printed or handwritten keys)

How to Keep Your Crypto Assets Safe

1. Choose the Right Wallet

Select a wallet that suits your needs based on how frequently you plan to trade and your security requirements.

2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Adding 2FA adds an extra layer of security that requires not just a password but also a second factor, like a mobile device, to access your wallet.

3. Regular Backups

Regularly back up your wallet to ensure you don’t lose access to your assets in case of device failure or theft.

4. Stay Informed

Keep abreast of the latest security measures and trends in the cryptocurrency space to adapt your wallet security accordingly.

The Growing Importance of Self-Custody

As cryptocurrency adoption expands globally, more investors are turning to self-custody solutions — controlling their own private keys rather than relying on exchanges. While this increases responsibility, it also enhances financial sovereignty and security.

Conclusion

Understanding crypto wallets and implementing best practices for security is crucial for anyone looking to invest in cryptocurrencies. With proper knowledge and precautions, you can safeguard your digital assets and enjoy the benefits of this revolutionary technology.

Parma Starting XI

Parma head coach names a balanced lineup, opting for a structured defensive setup combined with pace in the attacking third. The formation suggests a flexible 4-3-3, with emphasis on width and quick transitions.

Key Focus:

  • A solid back four aiming to limit Cagliari’s counterattacks

  • Creative midfield presence to control possession

  • A dynamic front line tasked with pressing high and exploiting spaces

Cagliari Starting XI

Cagliari respond with a competitive starting eleven, likely lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The Sardinian side looks to maintain defensive stability while relying on quick breaks and set-piece opportunities.

Key Focus:

  • Double pivot in midfield for added protection

  • Compact defensive shape to frustrate Parma’s build-up play
