Severe Weather Alert: Plains Threatens on April 26, 2026

Drone Footage Reveals Texas Trail Of Destruction

Another round of dangerous storms tore through the Plains Sunday afternoon and evening, the latest in a multi-day siege of deadly severe weather. Below, you can find our live updates from Sunday night, and for more on the severe weather and tornado threat in the days ahead, read our forecast article.

(08:52 p.m. EDT) What The Overnight Hours Hold

From meteorologists Rob Shackelford and Caitlin Kaiser:

The severe storm threat is expected to continue through the overnight hours, especially for the Central Plains.

Parts of southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma have the potential to see strong tornadoes over the next hour or so.

The storm that produced the large and dangerous tornado in Sycamore, Kansas, continues its track to the east across southern Kansas and will eventually head into Missouri. While the storm has no observed tornado on the ground at this time, storms that have a history of tornadoes have the potential to generate more.

So far this evening, we have seen 41 hail reports, 16 damaging wind reports and two tornado reports across the Plains. These numbers will likely continue to rise overnight.

(08:41 p.m. EDT) Damage Reported In Sycamore, Kansas

While we don’t yet know how severe the damage is, emergency managers are reporting that there is damage in Sycamore, Kansas, a town with a population of about 70 people in Montgomery County, Kansas. Fire and EMS are on their way to the town.

(08:26 p.m. EDT) Tornado Threatening Sycamore, Kansas

Storm chaser Charles Peek is sharing video on social media showing the tornado attempting to spin up in Sycamore, Kansas, which is under a PDS tornado warning:

(08:13 p.m. EDT) PDS Tornado Warning In Southeastern Kansas

A “particularly dangerous situation” tornado warning has been issued for Montgomery County, Kansas, in the southeastern portion of the state. Towns included in this PDS tornado warning include Sycamore and Cherryvale.

“You are in a life-threatening situation,” said the National Weather Service. “Flying debris may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be destroyed. Considerable damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles is likely and complete destruction is possible.”

With the threat of tornadoes expected over the next several hours, we should break down the types of tornado warnings.

The first is a “radar indicated” tornado warning. This doesn’t mean that a tornado has been confirmed but it could be at any moment. Take these warnings as seriously as any other warning.

The next is tornado warnings with a confirmed tag. There are two types: radar confirmed and spotter confirmed.

Then, there are Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Confirmed Tornadoes. These are rare and an elevated version of a tornado warning and suggest an unusually high threat of damage and loss of life.

Finally, there is a tornado emergency. This is the rarest type of warning and is only used for dire situations.

To find more information on the different types, click here.

(07:56 p.m. EDT) Another Tornado Watch Issued In Missouri

From meteorologist Rob Shackelford:

A tornado watch has been issued for southern Missouri until 2 a.m. local time.

The main threats are a few tornadoes, tennis-ball-sized hail (2 inches in diameter) and wind gusts to 70 mph.

The combined population under tornado watches between the four tornado watches is now over 4 million people.

(07:33 p.m. EDT) Largest Hail Report So Far

From meteorologist Caitlin Kaiser:

A hailstone 3 inches in diameter was reported in Iowa City, Texas — the largest hail report so far this evening.

The threat for 2- to 3-inch hail is increasing across parts of northern Texas and southern Oklahoma, as well as the chance of a tornado.

Another notable report was a 2-inch hailstone in Madison, Kansas. In total, there have been more than 20 hail reports so far, with the bulk of them occurring in Kansas. This number is expected to increase as the night progresses.

(07:14 p.m. EDT) What To Expect The Rest Of The Night

From meteorologist Rob Shackelford:

As storms continue to fire up across the Central Plains, here’s a brief forecast of where storms should be in the next few hours.

The main line of storms we have been watching are moving through southern Kansas into Iowa and Missouri. This line of storms has a history of severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings because it has plenty of moisture and instability, ingredients necessary for severe storm development. The strongest storms are expected on the southern end of this initial line of storms.

Storms will fill in behind this initial line and will move through the same areas in the coming hours, which could bring another round of gusty winds, large hail and even the threat of a strong tornado. This second round of storms is expected to follow in the footsteps of the first line, so along with the severe storm threat, heavy rainfall is also possible.

(06:50 p.m. EDT) Storm Damage Reported Near Kansas City

Southwest of Kansas City, homes were damaged and a barn was destroyed near Edgerton, Kansas, according to local storm reports. No further details were immediately available.

(06:32 p.m. EDT) Tornado Watch Issued For Parts Of Oklahoma, Arkansas

From meteorologist Rob Shackelford:

The tornado watches are beginning to fill in across the Central Plains as storms are ramping up across the region.

The third tornado watch of the night has been issued for parts of northeastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas. This watch includes the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The main threats are a couple of intense tornadoes, large apple-sized hail (3 inches in diameter) and gusts to 70 mph.

The combined population under tornado watches between the three tornado watches is now over 3.5 million people.

(06:16 p.m. EDT) Severe Storms Starting To Fire Up In Texas

TXStormRadar.jpg

From meteorologist Caitlin Kaiser:

After a quiet afternoon, we are starting to see storms pop up in Texas.

The first severe thunderstorm warning for the Lone Star State has been issued for a cell moving toward Wichita Falls.

The storm could bring golf ball-sized hail and winds up to 60 mph.

The conditions are expected to continue to deteriorate across the tornado-watched area in the coming hours.

(05:55 p.m. EDT) Severe Weather Safety 101

Is your area under the threat of severe weather tonight? It’s important to be prepared before the storms reach you.

Meteorologist Caitlin Kaiser breaks down the common mistakes people make and some potentially life-saving tips to help you prepare here.

(05:40 p.m. EDT) Strong Storms Ongoing For Eastern Kansas, Western Missouri

SunERO.jpg

From meteorologist Rob Shackelford:

A line of powerful storms is moving across eastern Kansas just south of Kansas City.

These storms have severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings issued for them, where gusts to 70 mph, ping-pong-ball-sized hail and even a tornado are possible.

These storms are also expected to have more storms build in behind them, leading to heavy rainfall “training” over the same areas. That means we could see flash flooding in these areas, as rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible. There is a flood watch in effect for these areas, including Kansas City.

(04:56 p.m. EDT) Another Tornado Watch In Effect

From digital meteorologist Caitlin Kaiser:

A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Oklahoma and Texas until 11 p.m. local time. The main threats are hail up to the size of an apple, wind gusts up to 70 mph and a couple of tornadoes.

(04:23 p.m. EDT) Tornado Watch Issued For Parts Of Missouri, Kansas

From digital meteorologist Rob Shackelford:

The first tornado watch of the night has been issued for parts of Kansas and Missouri until 11 p.m. local time.

The main threats are tornadoes, hail up to tennis ball size and wind gusts up to 75 mph.

Here’s how you can tell the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning.

(04:12 p.m. EDT) Nighttime Tornadoes Are Especially Deadly

2026_night_tornadoes.webp

The threat of tornadoes is expected to last into the overnight hours, and a recent study has confirmed that nighttime twisters are nearly twice as deadly as daytime tornadoes.

There are several reasons for the increased risk. The most obvious one: visibility. Nighttime tornadoes are only illuminated by lightning, which lasts for a few seconds.

Also, there aren’t as many storm chasers and trained spotters out after dark.

The biggest reason for the increase in fatalities for nighttime tornadoes is that you can be asleep while the threat tracks through your area.

Meteorologist Rob Shackelford breaks it all down here.

(03:56 p.m. EDT) How Large Could The Hail Get Tonight?

From meteorologist Caitlin Kaiser:

Severe weather tonight could bring the threat for large to very large hail across parts of the Plains, including places like Kansas City, Wichita, Dallas and Oklahoma City.

The hail could be as large as 2 to 3 inches in diameter. But how big actually is this?

Hail that is 2 inches in diameter is comparable to a hen’s egg, while 3-inch hail is similar to a large apple.

Find more information here on hail and the type of damage it can cause to you and your property.

(03:26 p.m. EDT) More Details On The Deadly Texas Tornado

According to the Associated Press, two people died late Saturday night when tornadoes caused major damage to homes in multiple North Texas towns. An EF2 tornado brought 130-mph winds to Runaway Bay, killing one person. Later in the evening, an EF1 tornado with 105-mph winds killed another person on the south side of Springtown.

“Access has been difficult due to blocked roadways and downed utilities, but crews have continued pushing forward to reach those in need,” Wise County Judge J.D. Clark told reporters. “Roads in the affected area will remain closed by law enforcement to ensure safety and allow emergency crews to manage the scene without obstruction.”

(03:08 p.m. EDT) Here’s The Latest As We Start The Afternoon

From meteorologist Jennifer Gray:

A dangerous weather weekend and start to the upcoming week continues across the Plains and Midwest that has already claimed two lives. Significant threats of tornadoes, hail and damaging winds extend through Tuesday.

The threat of supercell thunderstorms is in play in the Central and Southern Plains, especially in parts of Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.

With enough warm, humid air and strong wind shear in place, these supercells could spawn strong tornadoes, in addition to very large hail and damaging wind gusts. Cities like Kansas City and Oklahoma City need to be on alert.

A lower severe storm threat could impact cities like Dallas, San Antonio and Austin with large hail and damaging winds.

76ers Deliver a Bold Statement with Surprising Lineup Change

The Philadelphia 76ers, when healthy, have one of the deepest rosters in the league. They have very interchangeable players coming off the bench, and their starting unit packs a ton of raw talent. However, injuries have prevented them from fully realizing the potential of their second unit, although Quentin Grimes was the one constant for the team outside of their opening group.

Averaging nearly 30 minutes per outing in the regular season, Grimes was a guarantee to get just as many minutes in the playoffs especially with the 76ers in dire need of more sources of scoring. However, to the surprise of many, Nick Nurse and his staff have given him relatively meager minutes as of late, seemingly sending a message to the guard for his lack of aggressiveness in recent outings.

In Game 3 of their first-round playoff series against the Celtics, the 76ers deployed Grimes for just a hair under 15 minutes. He scored just two points built on a couple of free throws, grabbed four boards, and dished one dime, finishing the game as a -8 in his limited playing time. Grimes never played that little in the regular season, so for it to come in the playoffs is definitely saying something.

The 76ers send a loud message to Quentin Grimes after handing him lesser playing time

Strangely enough, Grimes has been lackadaisical on the scoring department since the regular season ended. Including their play-in tournament game against Orlando, he has tallied just 19 points combined in four postseason contests. For the sake of reference, he racked up 20 markers in their final regular season game alone.

The 76ers badly need more scoring from Grimes, their nominal sixth man, but he has not given them anything close to his normal level of production. For some reason, he has become trigger-shy, which is not helping the team at all. Now, the Celtics are starting to realize just how predictable the team’s offense can get.

As an impending free agent, Grimes ought to know better than to put on stale performances in the playoffs. If he keeps this up, it would be way easier to envision the 76ers moving on from him and not even showing interest in retaining his services. His demand for a more handsome payday could likewise be in peril.

Philly is behind in their first-round series once again, and if Quentin Grimes keeps refusing to show up, the coaches will be compelled to let him linger on the bench for longer than he is used to. But more importantly, this is basically a form of self-sabotage he should be trying to avoid in the first place given his contract situation.

Torkelson Powers Up with Fourth Straight Homer

CINCINNATI — The last time was on a roll like this, he was at peak Tork phenom at Arizona State. He had a lot of homer streaks as a Sun Devil, but he homered in four straight games near the end of his sophomore season, a 23-homer, 66-RBI campaign in 2019 that powered him to the front of the MLB Draft prospect list for 2020.

This is different. Beyond the obvious differences in the college game, Torkelson started out hot and stayed hot in 2019. This year, Torkelson went homerless in his first 23 games and was batting just .186 in that stretch, a slow start that — combined with Dillon Dingler’s hot start — led to Torkelson’s drop to the bottom third of the lineup.

Torkelson’s home run Wednesday at Comerica Park off Milwaukee’s Chad Patrick was his first since last Sept. 20. He has homered in every game since, a four-game streak that stands as the longest by a Tiger in a decade. His latest homer, a Statcast-projected 395-foot drive off Reds starter Brady Singer, went out to right-center, where Torkelson tries to hit everything when he’s on.

It wasn’t enough to lift the Tigers out of the hole the Reds built for them by jumping struggling starter Jack Flaherty for six runs in two innings in a 9-2 defeat. It was still enough to force a Reds pitching adjustment.

The patient Torkelson who grinded out at-bats and waited diligently for his pitch early in the season has given way to a more aggressive Torkelson. He’s still selective, still rarely chasing pitches out of the strike zone. But now, he’s hunting fastballs and attacking them regardless of count.

Torkelson entered Saturday having put the first pitch of an at-bat in play just twice all season, both for outs. He was also 0-for-7 against Singer since 2022, when Singer was still a division rival with Kansas City. Torkelson hit a comebacker for an out in his first at-bat Saturday, but when Singer left a 91 mph sinker over the heart of the plate to begin his second at-bat, Torkelson pounced.

“I like that he’s been a tick more aggressive in recent days,” manager A.J. Hinch said before the game, “and maybe that comes with success a little bit. I think it’s not a whole philosophical change.”

Indeed, Torkelson said, he hasn’t overhauled his approach.

“I’m hunting my pitch,” he said before the game. “I feel like for the most part, if I’m not swinging at the first pitch, it’s probably a pitcher’s pitch, and I don’t want to get myself out on a pitcher’s pitch. … No crazy adjustment. …

“Swing on time, hunt my pitch and put my swing on it. That’s it.”

All four of Torkelson’s home runs this season have been on fastballs. He entered Saturday averaging a 93.6 mph exit velocity against fastballs, his highest average since his 31-homer season of 2023.

“As soon as you feel it once, your brain’s crazy. It just likes to repeat it,” Torkelson said.

Not since Ian Kinsler’s 28-homer, 5.6 bWAR season in 2016 had a Tiger homered in four consecutive games. Kinsler was already hitting well before his streak began, batting .295 with six homers and seven doubles in his first 35 games. Kinsler went on a tear from there, including another streak of three games with a homer a month later.

Kinsler’s streak couldn’t have come at a better time for the 2016 Tigers, who had lost 11 of 12 before Kinsler’s roll helped them salvage a win in Baltimore and then sweep the Twins in Detroit.

The frustrating part of Torkelson’s roll is that the Tigers have struggled to take advantage of it the past two nights. His home run Friday off Reds reliever Tony Santillan helped spark an eighth-inning comeback that had Detroit an out away from a win before Nathaniel Lowe’s walk-off homer off Kenley Jansen. Saturday saw the Tigers face a five-run deficit before Torkelson’s homer, and Detroit didn’t score again.

Once Torkelson came back up with a runner on first in the sixth, the Reds pulled Singer for slider specialist Connor Phillips, who fanned Torkelson on three sweepers.

Torkelson will step to the plate Sunday with a chance to match the franchise-record home-run streak of five games, a feat shared by such greats as Hank Greenberg (Sept. 10-14, 1940), Willie Horton (Aug. 29-Sept. 1, 1969), Rudy York (Aug. 22-25, 1937) and Vic Wertz (July 27-Aug. 1, 1950). Marcus Thames was the last to do it, homering six times in a five-game span from June 13-17, 2008. White Sox slugger Munetaka Murakami has the longest home-run streak in the Majors this season, with five games.

Cryptocurrency 101: A Beginner’s Guide to Digital Currencies

Cryptocurrency 101: A Beginner’s Guide to Digital Currencies

What is Cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency is a type of digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security. Unlike traditional currencies issued by governments (like the US Dollar or the Euro), cryptocurrencies are decentralized and typically based on blockchain technology.

How Does it Work?

Cryptocurrencies operate on a technology called blockchain, which is a distributed ledger that records all transactions across a network of computers. Each transaction is verified by network nodes through cryptography, ensuring the integrity and security of the currency.

Key Components of Cryptocurrency:

  • Decentralization: No central authority controls cryptocurrencies.
  • Blockchain Technology: A transparent and secure way of recording transactions.
  • Cryptography: Provides security and privacy for users.

Popular Cryptocurrencies

There are thousands of cryptocurrencies available today, but some of the most popular include:

  1. Bitcoin (BTC): The first and most widely recognized cryptocurrency.
  2. Ethereum (ETH): Known for its smart contract functionality.
  3. Ripple (XRP): Focused on enabling real-time cross-border payments.
  4. Litecoin (LTC): A peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created as a ‘lighter’ version of Bitcoin.

Investing in Cryptocurrency

Investing in cryptocurrencies can be risky due to their volatile nature. Here are a few tips for beginners:

  • Do Your Research: Understand the technology and market before investing.
  • Diversify Your Portfolio: Don’t put all your funds into one cryptocurrency.
  • Use Reputable Exchanges: Choose well-known platforms for buying and trading.

Risks and Challenges

The world of cryptocurrency is not without its challenges. Some risks include:

  • Market Volatility: Prices can fluctuate wildly in short periods.
  • Security Risks: Hacking and fraudulent schemes can compromise your assets.
  • Regulatory Risks: Governments worldwide are still determining how to regulate cryptocurrencies.

Conclusion

Cryptocurrencies represent a revolutionary shift in the way we think about money and finance. While they offer great opportunities, they also come with significant risks. As with any investment, it’s crucial to educate yourself and approach the market with caution.

Country Duo Announces Heartfelt Split: ‘Thankful for the Journey’

Neon Union have decided to go their separate ways.

In a joint Instagram letter on Friday, April 24, the beloved country music duo announced their decision to disband. The talented pair, made up of Leo Brooks and Andrew Millsaps, added that the choice came after a lot of “thought and consideration.”

“After a lot of thought and consideration, we’ve decided to go our separate ways. This chapter of Neon Union is closing,” the duo’s Millsaps wrote in a slideshow, which showcases various photos of Neon Union through the years. “What a ride we have had! I love Leo, and he will always be my friend and brother. I’m thankful for every chapter of my book in life. Neon Union was a very impactful and special chapter in that book. I’ve done things I’ve never dreamed possible, and made lifelong memories.”

Millsaps, who, with Brooks, formed in 2022 and inked a deal with Red Street Records’ country division, went on to thank the label for “the opportunity to put our music out to the world.”

“…We’ve accomplished bucket list check marks that a small town boy from Mayberry could have only dreamed of,” he said, before pointing out a few of the band’s early milestones. “From an ACM nomination to the Grand Ole Opry Circle, I cannot express how lucky and blessed I am to have been part of this journey, but I am ready for the next one. The closing of this chapter might be the end of one, but it’s the beginning of the next. I’m excited for what’s to come. To the Neon Union fans, I want to say thank you so much for all of your love and support.”

They Still Plan to Write Songs Together

As for Brooks, he shared his message, adding that while the two will be embarking on separate career paths, they will still come together to write songs.

“Life is a journey, and I’m just grateful for the ride. I’ve learned a lot from Neon Union and had great times,” Brooks said. “Andrew will always be my best friend, and we will still write songs together.”

“Big thanks to the whole Red Street team, now it’s time to go wherever God leads me,” he added. “Thank you to all of the NU fans, love y’all, and here’s to the next chapter, cheers. Leo Brooks.”

Fan Response

Fans of Neon Union were quick to jump into the comments section of the post, with some even wondering whether the message was real.

“Is this a joke? 😮,” one person wrote while another follower added, “This must be a joke.”

Regulatory Changes: What New Laws Mean for Cryptocurrency Investors

Regulatory Changes: What New Laws Mean for Cryptocurrency Investors

The cryptocurrency landscape is evolving rapidly, and new regulatory measures are being introduced in various countries around the globe. These changes aim to create a safer investment environment, but they also introduce complexities that cryptocurrency investors need to understand. This article explores the recent regulatory changes and their implications for cryptocurrency investors.

Understanding the Regulatory Landscape

Regulatory bodies around the world are taking different approaches to cryptocurrency. In some regions, governments are embracing digital currencies, while in others, strict regulations are being enforced. The primary goal is to protect investors, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of financial markets.

Key Regulatory Changes to Watch

1. Enhanced Reporting Requirements

Many jurisdictions are imposing strict reporting requirements on cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet providers. This means that investors may be required to provide more detailed information about their transactions. Failure to comply may lead to penalties, adding an additional layer of complexity to investing.

2. Classification of Cryptocurrencies

One significant aspect of the regulatory changes includes how cryptocurrencies are classified. Some may be categorized as securities, while others may be considered commodities. This classification affects how they are regulated and taxed, impacting investors’ strategies significantly.

3. Tax Implications

Governments are ramping up efforts to tax cryptocurrency transactions. In some countries, profits gained from cryptocurrency trading are subject to capital gains tax. Investors need to stay informed about their local tax regulations to avoid unexpected liabilities.

Impact on Investors

The new regulatory landscape presents both challenges and opportunities for cryptocurrency investors:

  • Increased Safety: With regulations in place, investors may feel safer knowing that there are legal protections against fraud and market manipulation.
  • Compliance Costs: Investors may face higher costs as exchanges and services pass compliance-related expenses onto their users.
  • Investment Strategies: Changes in regulation may require investors to rethink their strategies, focusing on compliant platforms and approaches that align with new laws.

Navigating the Changes

Here are some tips for navigating these regulatory changes:

  • Stay Informed: Regularly monitor updates regarding regulations in your region and globally.
  • Consult Professionals: Engage with financial advisors or legal experts who specialize in cryptocurrency regulations.
  • Use Compliant Platforms: Ensure that the exchanges and wallets you are using adhere to the current regulatory requirements.

Conclusion

As the regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies continues to evolve, investors must remain vigilant and adaptable. Understanding the implications of new laws is crucial to navigating this dynamic landscape successfully. By staying informed and compliant, cryptocurrency investors can better protect their investments and capitalize on the opportunities that arise.

Decentralized Finance: Revolutionizing Traditional Banking Systems

Decentralized Finance: Revolutionizing Traditional Banking Systems

Introduction

The emergence of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) has set the stage for a significant transformation in the financial landscape, challenging the established norms of traditional banking systems. Through the use of blockchain technology, DeFi is creating an open and permissionless financial ecosystem that offers various financial services without the need for intermediaries such as banks.

Understanding Decentralized Finance

Decentralized Finance refers to a broad category of financial applications built on top of blockchain networks. DeFi aims to recreate and improve upon traditional financial systems—like lending, borrowing, trading, and investing—without the involvement of centralized authorities. This is achieved using smart contracts on platforms like Ethereum, which automate transactions and reduce operational costs.

Key Components of DeFi

1. Smart Contracts

Smart contracts are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code. They eliminate the need for intermediaries and automate processes, creating a more efficient and transparent financial system.

2. Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs)

DEXs allow users to trade cryptocurrencies directly with one another without relying on a centralized entity to facilitate trades. This enhances privacy and security while reducing fees often associated with traditional exchanges.

3. Lending and Borrowing Platforms

DeFi lending platforms enable users to lend their crypto assets to others in exchange for interest, while borrowers can obtain loans without the need for credit checks or collateral tied to a traditional currency.

Benefits of DeFi over Traditional Banking

The advantages of DeFi solutions compared to traditional banking systems are numerous:

  • Accessibility: DeFi services are available to anyone with an internet connection, breaking down geographical and financial barriers.
  • Lower Costs: By removing intermediaries, DeFi minimizes transaction fees and offers higher returns on savings.
  • Transparency: Blockchain technology ensures that all transactions are recorded publicly, providing a high level of transparency and security.
  • Control: Users have full control over their assets, which eliminates the risk of bank failures or restrictions imposed by financial institutions.

Challenges Facing DeFi

Despite its potential, DeFi also faces several challenges, including:

  • Regulatory Concerns: Governments and regulatory bodies are still determining how to approach decentralized finance, leaving the future uncertain.
  • Security Risks: Smart contracts are vulnerable to bugs and exploits, leading to significant financial losses.
  • Volatility: The DeFi market can be highly volatile, presenting risks to investors and users.

Conclusion

Decentralized Finance is not just a trend; it represents a fundamental shift in how financial systems operate. By leveraging blockchain technology, DeFi is offering innovative services that empower users and challenge the status quo of traditional banking. As the ecosystem continues to evolve, it has the potential to fulfill the promise of a truly inclusive and efficient financial system.
