“I have nothing but incredible memories from those days. They gave me time to be a tour father,” Depp said in Tokyo.

“Vanessa was doing her shows, you know, various tours. I got to be just daddy for a while,” the 62-year-old said.

“Hence the title of her record ‘Bliss’. It was bliss.”

Depp was together with the actor, singer and model from 1998 to 2012 and they have two children together.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Edward Scissorhands” star has had a string of relationships with other celebrities, including Winona Ryder and Kate Moss.

His brief marriage to Amber Heard, which ended in 2017, provoked the most headlines.

He tried to sue The Sun newspaper in 2020 for libel after it called him a “wife beater”, admitting he took drugs but denying any violence. He lost.

Their marriage was raked over in even more lurid detail during a defamation trial in the United States two years later, and this time Depp was successful.

The trial was a lightning rod for opposing sides of the #MeToo debate and Depp remains a toxic figure for many, particularly in the United States.

He lost his role in Harry Potter spin-off series “Fantastic Beasts” but made a comeback with “Jeanne du Barry”, which opened the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

Depp said at that festival most of the newspaper stories about him were “fantastically, horrifically written fiction”.

He directed last year’s biopic of Amedeo Modigliani and appears in the upcoming “Day Drinker” and “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol”.

“What excites me today, what can kind of give me a little bit of a jolt of electricity, is something that surprises me,” Depp said in the interview, for which questions had to be approved in advance.

Exploding brain

He spoke to AFP at the opening of an exhibition in Tokyo of dozens of his artworks made over three decades, following the show’s debut in New York.

“Acting is a form of expression, music certainly the same, and painting, drawing, creating something,” Depp told a news conference.

“I find that that is the one true, constant necessity that I must have. Otherwise my brain will explode.”

Artwork by Depp in his debut collection “Friends and Heroes” in Britain in 2022 sold out within hours, according to art retailer Castle Fine Art.

Depp, who is also a musician, made three million pounds ($3.6 million at the time) and sold 780 prints through the art house’s 37 galleries, media reports said.

“I don’t claim to be anything other than at most someone who paints. I am not even a painter really,” he said.

Tom Brady is a legendary NFL quarterback—but does his eldest son Jack potentially have a future in the NBA?

That seems possible after photos posted on Instagram by Karl-Anthony Towns of the New York Knicks, who captured 18-year-old Jack not only excelling on the basketball court but also taller than his 6’4’’ dad. Jack, though, isn’t quite as tall as Towns, who clocks in at an impressive 7’0’’.

“Next time we’re running routes?” Towns captioned the post, tagging Brady.

Brady shares Jack with his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan, who dated for two years before breaking up in 2006. Jack was born in August 2007, and, after marrying supermodel Gisele Bündchen in 2009, Brady also became a dad to Benjamin, 15, and Vivian, 12.

“Next thing you know, I found out that Bridget was pregnant with our son,” Brady previously said, calling that period “a very unique time” that “challenged me in a lot of ways, again, to grow up in a different way. It was very hard for my wife to think she fell in love with this guy, and then now this guy’s ex-girlfriend’s pregnant.” He added of Moynahan that “it was very challenging for my son’s mom, you know, because she didn’t envision that, either.”

Moynahan also said during a 2017 appearance on Live with Kelly that “I think right now he wants to be a professional soccer player. Though after the Olympics, he’s like, ‘I think I’m going to win a gold in swimming.’ Then it was Michael Phelps. So I think he just likes awards.”

Brady later told People that his kids were into watching football “because of their dad,” adding that “My oldest son Jack really loves soccer. He wants to be an Olympics soccer goalie.” Father and son have also been spotted playing golf together—with Jack towering over his dad yet again.

“I really think that he’s kind of like that normal kid who doesn’t really know what he wants to do yet, and I think that’s okay,” Moynahan said of Jack in June 2023. “I certainly don’t want to put any pressure on him to do what I do or what his father does.”

Fatherhood is deeply important to Brady, which he expressed back in July in his weekly newsletter.

“I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family,” he wrote. “I chose to do it by playing football.” He added, “My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused—those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids, by prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives.”

Being a great football player didn’t make me a great dad, but how I became a great player certainly had an impact—from showing up day in and day out, to doing whatever it took to get better, be successful, be a role model, and to provide.”

Marlo Thomas is opening up about her grief journey following the loss of her late husband Phil Donahue.

In an appearance on the Today show on Tuesday, Nov. 25, Thomas, 88, spoke out on the loss of her husband for the first time since his death on Aug. 18, 2024.

“I’m doing well. I’m like Sheinelle,” she said in reference to Today journalist Sheinelle Jones, whose husband Uche Ojeh, died at 45 from brain cancer in May.

“She’s been my Earth angel,” Jones, 47, chimed in.

“Thank you. I miss him a lot,” Thomas said about Donahue.

Thomas also appeared on the show on Monday, Nov. 24, to kick off Today‘s annual Thanks and Giving series, which highlights the remarkable work at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the facility her father, Danny Thomas, founded in 1962.

Donahue created and hosted The Phil Donahue Show. Donahue’s family said in a statement that he died in his home surrounded by his family, including his wife of 44 years, as well as “his sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie,” Today reported on Aug. 19, 2024.

The statement noted he “passed away peacefully following a long illness.” He was 88.

Upon her husband’s death, the That Girl alum penned a lengthy Instagram tribute.

“Until I return, I wish you good health and happy days in the company of family and friends, and I hope that you will continue to hold close those you cherish most, just as I was blessed to do with my beloved Phillip,” she wrote in part.

Donahue and Thomas married in 1980, after the two met in 1977 when she was a guest on his talk show. In a throwback post on Facebook, Thomas shared that “it was instant chemistry.” The couple later co-authored the book What Makes a Marriage Last: 40 Celebrated Couples Share with Us the Secrets to a Happy Life in 2020.

In May 2023, Thomas told PEOPLE that “love, listening and lust” were the keys to her happy marriage to Donahue.

Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande are getting candid about their food preferences.

The two Wicked: For Good stars teamed up to make pizza together while weighing in on an array of culinary topics in a playful New York Times Cooking video, released on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

When asked by a producer offscreen whether pineapple belongs on pizza, Grande gave a straightforward answer: “No.”

“I’m not saying that you’re wrong. I’m just saying that I’ve never even let my mind go there,” she clarified.

“And I know plenty of Italians who like it as well, so I’m not judging, I promise,” the singer added.

Grande, 32, then asked Bailey, 37, for his thoughts on the controversial topping.

Shaking his head, he replied, “It’s a heinous crime. It really is.”

The pair also answered questions about their depth of experience making pizza, with Grande sharing that she’s had some practice.

“I have made a pizza before because my family is Italian, and my mom has a big pizza oven,” she said.

However, when Bailey asked whether she was a master, she admitted, “I don’t think I’m very good.”

A later question about which dish best describes both stars led to some playful banter, as Bailey confused Grande with some unfamiliar food lingo.

“I think you’d be, like, a whipped terrine,” he told her, prompting her to ask, “What did you call me?”

“I know what you are,” Grande asserted, before Bailey unexpectedly replied, “Spotted dick.”

“What? Is that a fish?” Grande asked. “No, it’s a pudding,” Bailey responded.

“What is happening?” Grande questioned. “Is that … that’s a British thing, isn’t it?” Bailey observed.

The Bridgerton star then dropped another culinary term from across the pond that stumped the “Thank U, Next” singer.

“I reckon I’m probably bubble and squeak. Is that another British thing? Bubble and squeak is, like, yesterday’s leftovers all thrown into a pan,” Bailey explained.

Grande had a simpler answer: “I think I’d be … a strawberry?”
