PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD Radio) – Dancing with the Stars’ pro Val Chmerkovskiy was in Peoria on Sunday for a performance at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater.
He got through the show, but told fans on Facebook later that he ended up in a Peoria hospital room.
“The doc was cool – shout out to Claire our PT (physical therapist) on tour, and everyone on our tour for rallying. I’ve just been having vertigo for the past couple of days and had it yesterday,” Chmerkovskiy said.
Val Chmerkovskiy, a professional dancer from “Dancing With the Stars”, was rushed to a hospital in Peoria, Illinois while on the road with the DWTS Live! tour after experiencing intense vertigo that forced him to miss a scheduled performance. His unexpected medical visit has drawn concern from fans and fellow performers alike.
Chmerkovskiy later updated fans, revealing that medical tests diagnosed him with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) — an inner-ear related condition that can cause intense dizziness but is not life-threatening. He notably relieved fans by confirming there was no brain tumor or serious underlying condition.
The 39-year-old three-time Mirrorball Trophy winner had been set to appear at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater , when his symptoms — described as persistent dizziness and balance issues — worsened. He shared a video from his hospital bed explaining that severe vertigo made it difficult to perform, saying he felt like he was “spinning everywhere.
Despite the setback, the pro expressed gratitude for the medical care he received and for the support from his fellow dancers and tour crew. After resting and undergoing treatment, Chmerkovskiy planned to rejoin the tour for the next scheduled performance in Milwaukee.
Fans flooded social media with well wishes, and many praised the dancer’s transparency about his health. The DWTS Live! tour continues to feature many familiar faces from the show’s recent seasons.
Chmerkovskiy, a long-time favorite on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars show, is traveling with a national tour across the country.
He said being on a moving bus, he was just spinning, and couldn’t get himself together.
Chmerkovskiy hopes to be back on stage soon.
