Waterloo Road actor William Rush has died aged 31, his family has announced.
Rush played schoolboy Josh Stevenson in the BBC One drama, appearing in 168 episodes between 2009 and 2013.
As a child actor, he also appeared in Grange Hill and Shameless, and later went on to roles in Casualty and Vera.
His mother, ex-Coronation Street actress Debbie Rush, announced on Instagram that William had died on Wednesday, adding: “As a family, our hearts are completely broken.” His cause of death has not been announced.
Rush also auditioned for ITV talent show The X Factor in 2016, and made it as far as the “six-chair challenge”, the stage between boot camp and judges’ houses.
Debbie Rush, an actress herself who played Anna Windass in Coronation Street for a decade, described William as “our beautiful baby boy”, said: “There are no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss.”
She also paid tribute to her son’s decision to become an organ donor before he died.
“Even in our darkest moment, William gave the most precious gift of all,” she said.
“Through being an organ donor, he has given hope and life to other families, thinking of others right to the very end. His kindness and love will forever be part of his legacy.
“We kindly ask that our privacy be respected as we navigate this unimaginable grief. William will always be loved, always missed, and forever in our hearts.”
Fellow Coronation Street stars left supportive messages on her post, with Sally Dynevor saying she was “so shocked to hear this news” and describing William as a “beautiful boy”.
Actor Jack P Shepherd said: “Terrible to read that Debbie. Devastating news, thinking of you all,” while Shobna Gulati wrote: “Sending you all the love, I’m so sorry and my deepest sympathies.”
Chelsee Healey, who also appeared in Waterloo road, posted: “My heart breaks for you all, I’m so so sorry.”
A strong clipper system is expected to bring high winds and a mix of rain, freezing rain and snow to the Northland from Wednesday into Thursday.
The Storm Track Weather Team has been monitoring the fast-moving storm, which could make travel difficult due to snow and blowing snow. Winds are expected to play a major role, with sustained speeds around 30 mph or more and gusts over 50 mph likely on Thursday.
Travel over the bridges Thursday afternoon may be challenging because of the wind.
A powerful storm system is expected to sweep across the Lake Superior region, bringing gale-force winds, heavy snowfall, and hazardous conditions over the coming days. Forecasters are warning mariners, coastal communities, and travelers to prepare for rapidly changing weather and dangerous conditions on both land and water.
According to meteorologists, the developing system will strengthen as it moves across the Upper Midwest, drawing in cold air and generating strong pressure gradients over Lake Superior. These conditions are likely to produce sustained high winds, with gusts reaching gale force, especially across open waters and along exposed shorelines.
Two additional clipper systems are forecast to move through the Northland, possibly bringing accumulating snow Friday night and Saturday and again on Monday.
Snow is also expected to accompany the storm, with accumulations varying depending on location and elevation. Areas downwind of the lake may experience lake-effect snow, reducing visibility and making travel difficult. Road conditions could deteriorate quickly, particularly during periods of intense snowfall combined with strong winds.
Marine conditions on Lake Superior are forecast to become especially dangerous. High waves, rough seas, and reduced visibility will pose serious risks to commercial shipping and smaller vessels. Authorities are advising mariners to closely monitor forecasts and consider delaying travel until conditions improve. Ports and harbors may also face disruptions as the storm intensifies.
Coastal communities around Lake Superior are being urged to secure loose objects and prepare for possible power outages caused by strong winds. Falling tree branches and blowing snow could lead to localized disruptions, while cold temperatures may increase the risk of icy conditions on roads and walkways.
The Storm Track Weather Team will continue to watch these systems as they move through the region.
Emergency management officials recommend residents stay informed through local weather updates and follow guidance from authorities. Travelers should allow extra time, carry winter safety supplies, and be prepared for sudden changes in weather. Those living in snow-prone areas are advised to check heating systems and ensure adequate supplies in case travel becomes difficult.
While storms of this nature are not uncommon for the Lake Superior region, the combination of strong winds, snow, and cold temperatures underscores the importance of preparation. Forecasts will continue to be updated as the system approaches, and residents are encouraged to stay alert to any watches or warnings issued in the coming days.
As the storm develops, Lake Superior once again demonstrates its reputation for powerful and unpredictable weather, reminding those in the region to respect the lake’s strength and take precautions to stay safe.
In a new interview on Sherri, the singer and TV personality, 48, addressed rumors she had an affair with rapper Birdman, who’s been married to Tamar’s eldest sister Toni for more than a year.
The topic arose as host Sherri Shepherd brought up a recent episode of The Braxtons where Tamar’s sister Towanda accused her of having relations with one of Toni’s ex-flames, whom some fans assumed was Birdman, 56.
“Where did that rumor come from? That is preposterous,” said Tamar on Shepherd’s talk show, before explaining her close friendship with Birdman, whose real name is Bryan Williams.
“The truth is I introduced Toni to her husband. Bryan and I were friends first, like, real platonic friends,” said the “Love & War” musician. “He was actually dating one of my friends a long time ago. When they broke up, Brian and I became really good friends because [he] and [Ronald Jay ‘Slim’ Williams] wanted to sign me to Cash Money Records. This was a long time ago.”
“And so then he started speaking to me about my sister,” she added.
Tamar continued, “So when Toni got a divorce [from ex-husband Keri Lewis in 2016], he was serious about her and, you know, made his way in.”
Toni, 58, and Birdman started dating in 2016 after many years of friendship. She announced their engagement in February 2018, though it was briefly called off before they sparked reconciliation rumors the following year.
In April 2025, TMZ confirmed Braxton filed for divorce via court documents, two weeks after her wedding. In the docs, she listed their date of separation to be Aug. 10, 2024 — just two days after saying “I do.”

Elsewhere in Tamar’s Sherri interview, she said the rumor of an affair between herself and Birdman made her feel “upset.”
“That’s my brother. Now, he’s my brother-in-law,” she said.

Tamar explained she and Birdman have always been close, noting that she accompanied him to a recent Verzuz battle — where she was seen because Toni wasn’t able to attend.
She also updated viewers on the current state of her sisterly relationships. “We’re in a healthy space. I think that everyone has taken accountability for their part in what happened, publicly and privately,” said the star. “And I think now it’s time for healing, whatever that looks like.”
This marks a 55 per cent surge from the previous week’s 1,717 patients, 69 of whom were in critical care.
With common colds also prevalent during the colder months, distinguishing between the two illnesses can be challenging.
Understanding the key differences is crucial for safeguarding personal and family health throughout winter.
Here’s what to know.
Flu cases are sharply increasing across England (Getty Images)
What causes the flu and what causes a cold?
Colds and flu are both respiratory illnesses, but are caused by different viruses.
“Colds are primarily caused by viruses, with rhinovirus being the most common culprit,” says Dr Naveed Asif, GP at The London General Practice.
“Whereas, the flu is specifically caused by influenza viruses, primarily types A and B.”
That means it is possible to have a cold and flu at the same time.
“Both have peaks during the cold season and can run your immune system down, making you susceptible to further infections,” Dr Asif says.
Do colds and flu spread in the same way?
“Both the common cold and the flu are highly contagious respiratory illnesses spread through direct contact and respiratory droplets,” says Dr Asif.
“Transmission occurs when virus-laden droplets are expelled during coughing, sneezing, or talking, landing in the mouths or noses of nearby individuals. In poorly ventilated situations, these droplets can travel longer distances.
“Infection can also occur by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the face.”
Colds and flu are spread by virus-laden droplets
What are the main symptoms and how can you tell a cold from flu?
“A common cold usually causes a runny or blocked nose, sneezing, a sore throat, mild cough and mild fatigue,” explains Dr Claire Agathou, GP and co-founder of the A–Z General Practice at The Wellington Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK.
“Meanwhile, flu typically causes a sudden onset of fever, severe tiredness and weakness, muscle and joint aches, a headache, a dry cough, chills (feeling shivery and sweats), a loss of appetite and sometimes diarrhoea.
“The key difference is that flu tends to come on suddenly and much more severely, whereas cold symptoms are milder and develop more gradually.”
Can colds and flu lead to other illnesses or complications?
“While colds are usually mild and self-limiting, both colds and flu can lead to complications such as sinusitis, ear infections, chest infections, and worsening of underlying health conditions,” says Dr Agathou.
“Flu can cause pneumonia, hospital admission, and serious illness in vulnerable groups. However, even those who are normally well can become very unwell so it’s important to contact your GP promptly to discuss your symptoms if you feel unwell or are concerned about your symptoms.”
Is flu treated and managed in a different way to a cold?
“Both are mainly managed with rest, fluids and symptom relief such as paracetamol,” says Dr Agathou.
“However, in higher-risk groups, antiviral medication may be prescribed for flu if started early.
“Antibiotics are not effective for either unless there is a secondary bacterial infection.”
Is the recovery period usually longer for a cold or flu?
“A cold usually settles within seven to 10 days, but flu recovery often takes one to two weeks, with fatigue sometimes lasting longer,” says Dr Agathou.
Can flu and colds be prevented in similar ways?
“The single most effective protection against flu is the annual flu vaccine, particularly for vulnerable groups, but other preventive steps for both flu and a common cold include regular handwashing and staying home when unwell,” says Dr Agathou.
“I’d also recommend avoiding touching the face, covering any coughs and sneezes and making sure indoor spaces are well ventilated.”
Who is eligible for the flu vaccine in the UK?
“The free NHS flu vaccine is offered annually to adults aged 65 and over, pregnant women, children aged 2-3 years and school-aged children (reception years to Year 11), people aged six months to 64 years with eligible long-term conditions, people with learning disabilities, carers, frontline health and social care workers, and care home residents and staff,” says Dr Agathou.
“Household contacts of immunocompromised individuals are also eligible.
“However, people who are not eligible for a free NHS vaccine can still access the flu jab privately. If you are unsure, speak to your GP or local pharmacist.”
Bruna Caroline Ferreira, the mom of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew, broke her silence on her ICE arrest in a Dec. 12 interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett
Ferreira also shared a scathing message for the White House press secretary, who is the godmother of her son, and addressed the White House’s claim that she has a criminal record and has not lived with her child
“Just because you went to a Catholic school doesn’t make you a good Catholic,” Ferreira said, referring to Leavitt
Bruna Caroline Ferreira, the mother of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew and godson, was detained by ICE and held for deportation in November. Now, she’s speaking out about the experience, and also sharing a pointed message for the White House press secretary.
The 33-year-old — who shares her son with Karoline’s older brother, Michael Leavitt — was arrested and detained while picking up her 11-year-old son from school in Revere, Mass., on Nov. 12.
Recalling the instance while breaking her silence to CNN’s Erin Burnett on Friday, Dec. 12, Ferreira, who appeared alongside her attorney Todd Pomerleau, also shared some choice words for the 28-year-old White House press secretary, who is her child’s godmother. (Ferreira chose Karoline for the role “over my sister,” she told CNN.)
“I think what I would have to say to Karoline is: Just because you went to a Catholic school doesn’t make you a good Catholic,” Ferreira told Burnett.
“You are a mother now,” Ferreira continued, referencing Karoline’s role as a mom to her 1-year-old son, Niko, whom she shares with husband Nicholas Riccio. “How would you feel if you were in those, in my shoes? … How would you feel if somebody did this to you?”
The White House press secretary has not publicly commented on the arrest, and a source previously told PEOPLE that she hasn’t spoken with Ferreira, brother Michael’s ex-fiancée and co-parent, “in many years.”
Ferreira arrived in the United States from Brazil in 1998, when she was 6 years old, she recalled to CNN. At the time of her arrest, she was in the process of obtaining a green card, and she had previously been protected under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy.
The release came after weeks of what Ferreira told CNN was a “mind-boggling” experience of being “shuffled around the entire country” as federal agents refused to tell her where she was going.
After the news of Ferreira’s detainment broke, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed her arrest to PEOPLE, claiming that her tourist visa had expired in 1999.
They also alleged that Ferreira “has a previous arrest for battery,” but her attorney has repeatedly disputed this.
On Dec. 12, Ferreira also disputed the claim to CNN, describing herself as “a law-abiding citizen.”
Asked about the Trump administration’s repeated claim that she is a “criminal,” Ferreira told Burnett, “I’m heartbroken. I’m heartbroken for my son. You know, I’m heartbroken for my mother, who has worked for a quarter of a century cleaning houses, earned an honest living, has paid her taxes. I’ve been a law-abiding citizen. I don’t even have a parking ticket. And I’m so proud of it.”

“I’m proud of my name and I carry it like a badge of honor, you know, like being on an honor roll,” she continued. “And now my child is sitting somewhere watching them broadcast this 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As a child, he must be terrified: ‘Is it true? Did my mom do something? Do I not know about it?’ Gossip in school … I don’t know what’s going on in his little mind, and I just want him to know that none of those things are true, honey. And we’re to square this all away.”
Recalling her weeks in detainment at ICE facilities, Ferreira said, “You have a lot of time to think in there, you know, and you really think the worst. You think the worst. But the luck that I had is that I was surrounded by so many women, so many women that had four children. One was pregnant. … I can’t imagine. I just tried to put myself in their shoes.”
“I was in such a horrible situation, but they were praying for me and I was praying for them,” she continued, acknowledging that she had the advantage of an attorney who was able to expedite the process. “I can’t fathom a mother not knowing where her son is for a year and a half, and who’s with him, what he’s eating, if he’s going to bed on time, if he’s sick. I can’t imagine,” she added. “It’s cruel.”
Ferreira became visibly choked up as she recalled cycling through several states. “When I got to Texas, I asked the ICE agent — because it said ‘Mexico’ — and I said, ‘Can you please, please, please have a little bit of empathy for me and tell me if you’re taking me across the border?’ And he said, ‘No, we’re taking you to the final destination, your final stop before your deportation,’ which is south Louisiana. Hardly anyone ever gets out of there,” she said.

“So I just mustered up the courage to cry and sleep throughout that final voyage,” Ferreira added. “And when I got to south Louisiana, I was finally able to, by the grace of God, some girl let me use her minutes to make a phone call and then to tell my family where I was and the attorneys.”

In the final moments of her CNN appearance, Burnett asked Ferreira about the White House’s claim that she “never lived” with her son. Ferreira expressed confusion over the allegation, stating: “Why lie? Because I have so many friends and family that have called me and said, ‘Why would anyone lie about this when it’s 2025?’ We have a digital footprint of everything.”
“Every Wednesday, typically, my son and I go to Dave & Buster’s ’cause it’s half off. We’re extreme couponers at our home,” she added with a laugh. “And I don’t, I can’t … I can’t wrap my mind around it, but it doesn’t make any sense.”
“I’m just as lost as you are,” Ferreira continued. “And I’m hoping that this interview gets me some answers.”

Eight-time Daytime Emmy winner Anthony Geary, beloved by generations of television viewers for his iconic portrayal of General Hospital‘s Luke Spencer, passed away on December 14 at the age of 78. His death was the result of complications from a scheduled operation three days earlier.
Weeks before his death, Geary was seen watching former costar Genie Francis‘ appearance on Maurice Benard‘s State of Mind podcast. Geary’s husband, Claudio Gama, posted the video. “It really made Tony very happy,” Gama’s caption read. “He told me, ‘those are two lovely and talented people, great friends, and I miss them.’”
Born May 29, 1947, in Coalville, UT, Geary was raised in a Mormon household by his father, who ran a construction company, and his mother, a homemaker. Geary grew up alongside three sisters, Dana, DeAnn, and Jana. Though his mother hoped he might pursue a career in teaching, Geary felt an early and undeniable pull toward acting, a passion that would define his life and career.

While studying at the University of Utah, Geary’s talent caught the attention of Jack Albertson of Chico and the Man fame, who attended a performance by the promising sophomore. Albertson cast him in a touring stage production of The Subject Was Roses, a pivotal moment that launched his professional career. Over the years, Geary would go on to appear in more than 50 stage productions, maintaining a devotion to theater alongside his screen work.
In the late 1960s, Geary relocated to Los Angeles, where he began to build a steady résumé in television, appearing in popular series like The Partridge Family,The Mod Squad, and All in the Family. He soon found a home on soaps, first as David Lockhart on Bright Promise from 1971-1972, followed by the controversial role of George Curtis, a rapist, during the inaugural year of The Young and the Restless. His work ultimately caught the attention of legendary producer Gloria Monty, who cast him as GH‘s Luke in 1978, a decision that would change the landscape of daytime television.
That casting proved historic when Geary was paired with Genie Francis’ Laura Webber. Their electrifying chemistry and the wildly popular on-the-run storyline in 1980 propelled GH to the top of the ratings, transforming Luke and Laura into a cultural phenomenon. In 1981, the duo appeared on the cover of Newsweek, a rare honor for daytime performers. Luke and Laura’s wedding that November drew an estimated 30 million viewers and featured screen legend Elizabeth Taylor, an avid GH fan, in the role of Helena Cassadine. To commemorate the event, Geary, Francis, and Taylor graced the cover of People magazine.
Following Francis’ departure in 1982, Geary continued to anchor the series, working opposite Demi Moore (Jackie Templeton) and Emma Samms (Holly Sutton). Francis returned in 1983, and the pair later exited together, briefly returning in 1984. In 1991, Geary rejoined the show as Luke’s lookalike cousin, Bill Eckert, a role he played until 1993, before once again resuming the role of Luke.
Everett Collection
The day before Geary was scheduled to go into the hospital, he did a scene with Anders Hove (Cesar Faison, GH), for an upcoming project, marking his final acting work.
In addition to GH, Geary appeared in numerous film and television projects, including Intimate Agony, DoYou Know the Muffin Man?, The Disorderlies, You Can’t Hurry Love, Crack House, Weird Al Yankovic‘s UHF, Scorchers, Night of the Warrior, and Carpool Guy.
Geary is survived by Gama, who shares with TV Insider exclusively, “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.” For the last 16 years, their family also included “little Max,” their beloved cat. Following his retirement from GH in 2015, Geary lived exclusively in Amsterdam, a city he deeply loved and considered home.
Geary’s work reshaped daytime television, and his influence will be felt for generations. Though he will always be remembered as Luke Spencer, his legacy endures as that of a fearless performer and singular talent who left an indelible mark on the medium.
Cryptocurrency Regulations: Navigating the Growing Legal Landscape
The cryptocurrency market has exploded in popularity over the past decade, with more individuals and institutions investing in digital assets. However, alongside this growth comes the urgent need for regulation in a space often described as the ‘Wild West’ of finance. As governments and regulatory bodies seek to establish legal frameworks, understanding the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency regulations becomes increasingly crucial for investors, developers, and businesses.
The Rise of Cryptocurrency Regulations
Cryptocurrency’s unregulated nature has raised concerns regarding fraud, money laundering, and market volatility. In response, numerous countries have begun to implement regulations aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring financial stability. For instance, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has issued guidelines urging members to regulate cryptocurrencies in line with anti-money laundering (AML) standards.
Key Areas of Regulation
Regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies typically encompass several areas:
1. Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC)
One of the primary focuses of cryptocurrency regulation is enhancing AML and KYC measures. Governments worldwide are mandating exchanges and wallet providers to verify user identities, report suspicious transactions, and maintain transaction records. This is crucial for curbing illicit activities.
2. Taxation
Taxation of cryptocurrency gains is another critical aspect of regulation. Many jurisdictions classify cryptocurrencies as property, meaning capital gains tax applies to profits made from crypto transactions. It’s essential for investors to be aware of their local tax obligations to avoid penalties.
3. Securities Regulations
In some cases, cryptocurrencies are classified as securities, subjected to stringent regulations. Regulatory bodies like the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have taken the stance that many Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) fall under their jurisdiction, requiring adherence to securities laws.
Global Perspectives on Cryptocurrency Regulation
The approach to cryptocurrency regulation varies significantly around the globe. While countries like the United States and the European Union are moving towards comprehensive regulatory frameworks, others like China have outright banned cryptocurrency trading. Countries such as El Salvador have even adopted Bitcoin as legal tender, showcasing a diverse range of regulatory attitudes.
Challenges in Regulation
While regulation is necessary, it comes with its own set of challenges. The rapid pace of innovation in the cryptocurrency space often outstrips the ability of regulators to keep up. Additionally, over-regulation could stifle innovation and push businesses to jurisdictions with looser regulations, undermining the intended goals of consumer protection and market stability.
The Future of Cryptocurrency Regulations
As the cryptocurrency market continues to mature, a balanced approach to regulation will be essential. Collaboration between regulators, industry stakeholders, and the cryptocurrency community can foster an environment that encourages innovation while protecting consumers and the financial system as a whole.
Conclusion
Navigating the legal landscape of cryptocurrency regulations is complex but crucial for anyone involved in the space. Staying informed about regulatory changes and understanding local laws can help stakeholders mitigate risks and seize opportunities in this rapidly evolving market.
Community observing program Shadow the Scientists took the public on a second tour of the famous interstellar visitor with live observations from the Gemini North telescope control room in Hawai‘i
12 December 2025
Gemini North captured new images of Comet 3I/ATLAS after it reemerged from behind the Sun on its path out of the Solar System. The data were collected during a Shadow the Scientists session — a unique outreach initiative that invites students around the world to join researchers as they observe the Universe on the world’s most advanced telescopes.
On 26 November 2025, scientists used the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) on Gemini North at Maunakea in Hawai‘i to obtain images of the third-ever detected interstellar object, Comet 3I/ATLAS. The new observations reveal how the comet has changed after making its closest approach to the Sun. Gemini North is one half of the International Gemini Observatory, partly funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and operated by NSF NOIRLab.
After emerging from behind the Sun, 3I/ATLAS reappeared in the sky close to Zaniah, a triple-star system located in the constellation Virgo. These observations were taken as part of a public outreach initiative organized by NSF NOIRLab in collaboration with Shadow the Scientists, an initiative created to connect the public with scientists to engage in authentic scientific experiments, such as astronomy observing experiences on world-class telescopes [1]. The scientific program was led by Bryce Bolin, a research scientist from Eureka Scientific.
This image is composed of exposures taken through four filters — blue, green, orange, and red. As exposures are taken, the comet remains fixed in the center of the telescope’s field of view. However, the positions of the background stars change relative to the comet, causing them to appear as colorful streaks in the final image.
In earlier images of the comet, captured during a Shadow the Scientists session hosted at Gemini South in Chile, it appears to have a red hue. However, in the new image released today, it appears to have a faint greenish glow. This is due to light emitted by gases in the comet’s coma that are evaporating as the comet heats up, including diatomic carbon (C2), a highly reactive molecule of two carbon atoms that emits light at green wavelengths.
What remains unknown is how the comet will behave as it leaves the Sun’s vicinity and cools down. Many comets have a delayed reaction in experiencing the Sun’s heat due to the lag in time that it takes for heat to make its way through the interior of the comet. A delay can activate the evaporation of new chemicals or trigger a comet outburst. Gemini will continue to monitor the comet as it leaves the Solar System and detect changes in its gas composition and outburst behavior.
This collaboration with Shadow the Scientists builds on NOIRLab’s tradition of combining cutting-edge science with public engagement, ensuring that remarkable cosmic events are shared as widely as possible. By involving learners directly in observing sessions and data collection [2], programs like this one not only advance knowledge but also inspire the next generation of explorers.
“Sharing an observing experience in some of the best conditions available gives the public a truly front-row view of our interstellar visitor,” says Bolin. “Allowing the public to see what we do as astronomers and how we do it also helps demystify the scientific and data collection process, adding transparency to our study of this fascinating object.”
Notes
[1] The Shadow the Scientists initiative is made possible through the Creating Equity in STEAM (CrEST) program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, as well as support from the Heising-Simons Foundation.
