Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert went back to the locker room with trainers after a touchdown drive in the first quarter Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert has been ruled questionable to return and backup Trey Lance replaced him for the next offensive drive.
Herbert appeared to injure his left hand when he took a hit from Jeremy Chinn in the open field on a scramble. Herbert stayed in the game and completed a touchdown to Quentin Johnston to give the Chargers an early 7-0 lead.
Herbert returned to the sideline midway through the Chargers’ second possession wearing a padded white glove with his left ring finger and left middle finger taped together on the outside of the glove. Lance stayed in the game for the first nine plays of Los Angeles’ ensuing possession before Herbert returned to the game for a third-and-5 play. A false start penalty backed the Chargers up but Herbert completed a 10-yard pass to Keenan Allen to keep the drive alive. He later connected on a 27-yard pass to Oronde Gadsden to reach the 2-yard line but the drive ended when Herbert threw an interception to Las Vegas’ Kyu Blu Kelly in the end zone.
