CHICAGO (WLS) — Family, friends, and colleagues of Officer John Bartholomew gathered Friday morning to say their final goodbyes.

He’s being remembered as a beloved father, husband, son, brother and officer.

Family members, friends, elected leaders, and community members packed Saint Andrews Greek Orthodox Church.

Dozens of Chicago Police officers lined up outside the church.

Bartholomew was a 10-year veteran, he was killed in the line of duty on April 25.

He and his partner were shot while they escorted a robbery suspect at Swedish hospital.

Officer Bartholomew’s longtime partner Officer Nelson Crespo was critically injured and is still recovering.

Bartholomew is describes as a deeply dedicated officer who served with honor and integrity, and always put his family first.

The procession to the cemetery will travel south on Lake Shore Drive. Heavy traffic and street closures are expected until 3 p.m.
