The Los Angeles Chargers today signed with guard Kayode Awosika.
Awosika (name pronounced KY-oh-dee ah-woah-SHE-kah) comes to Los Angeles after spending the last four seasons with Detroit, playing on an offensive line for one of football’s top offenses. A five-year veteran, Awosika signed as an undrafted free agent with Philadelphia in 2021, spending a season with the Eagles before signing with Detroit and playing for the Lions the last four seasons. He has appeared in 50 regular-season games, making 11 starts, while also playing in four postseason contests (one start). Awosika contributed on an offensive line in Detroit over the last four years that blocked for three different 1,000-yard rushers and protected quarterback Jared Goff to throw for 4,000 yards in each season.
After redshirting at the University at Buffalo in 2017, Awosika started 32-of-37 career games for the Bulls. He earned first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors in 2020 when blocking for the second-ranked rushing offense in the nation (287.4 rushing yards per game). Awosika was a second-team All-MAC selection in 2019 when the Bulls set a program record with 3,256 rushing yards. As a sophomore in 2018, he started 14 games at right tackle when Buffalo scored a school-record 36 touchdown runs.
