Shedeur Sanders will reportedly become a Pro Bowler in his rookie season as a replacement for Drake Maye.
ESPN reported on Monday that the Cleveland Browns rookie has bettered his Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, who was drafted in 1989 but had to wait until 1991 to receive the first of his eight trips to the Pro Bowl.
Maye dropped out after the New England Patriots beat the Denver Broncos on Sunday to reach next month’s Super Bowl.
Sanders’s inclusion will raise eyebrows. The Browns went 3-4 in games he started and he completed just 56.6% of his passes for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Josh Allen and Justin Herbert are the other quarterbacks representing the AFC at the Pro Bowl Games, which will take place in the run-up to the Super Bowl.
Shedeur Sanders has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in the NFL, making a strong case for Pro Bowl consideration in his rookie season. With poised performances, sharp decision-making, and impressive leadership under center, Sanders is proving that his success is driven by his own talent and work ethic.
While comparisons to his legendary father, Deion Sanders, were inevitable, Shedeur has embraced the challenge and carved out his own identity on the professional stage. Week after week, he has delivered clutch plays, showcased accuracy, and demonstrated maturity beyond his years, earning respect from teammates, coaches, and fans alike.
Sanders’ ability to adapt to the speed and complexity of the NFL has been a key factor in his rise. His command of the offense and calm presence in high-pressure situations have helped his team remain competitive, while his consistent production continues to draw league-wide attention.
Other AFC quarterbacks who could have challenged Sanders for a place in the Pro Bowl are either injured (Patrick Mahomes) or spent lengthy spells on the sidelines (Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow). However, there appears to be no place for Trevor Lawrence, despite the Jaguars quarterback leading his team to the playoffs and enjoying the best season of his career so far.
Pro Bowl selections are decided between an equal weighting of votes from players, coaches and fans. Sanders, who was drafted with the 144th overall pick, received large numbers of votes from fans, which may help explain his call-up.
